Final day
Woke up very early and could see the inside of my tent totally coated with midges and shuddered at the thought of getting going, so scrapped the plan to cook podge and just had a couple cerial bars. Could also see my left big toe was in a bad way, the nail was kind of like the lid of a yogurt that has been peeled off then re-placed over the top of the yogurt, it was still on but literally sliding about on my toe, all I could do however was tape it up and get going.
Once going the first 17km and fisrt two Munro's were in boggy heathery terrain pretty much all in the cloud so just walked a lot of this to save the hammy and toe not to mention the rest of my aches and pains. After this descended back down into the valley before climbing up on a path into the cloud again towards Derry Cairngorm. From here Derry Cairngorm Ben macdui and one other Munro were intermittent path and boulder fields which took quite sone time to pick my way through. Up until this point my plan had been to run my loop of 38km then get up in the morning and run out , but about here I started think fuk it I fancy a curry, so decided that I would pack up my tent and run out today instead.
Descending took a minute as I could feel my nail sliding around, needless to say this was quite painful so hobbled down very slowly. Once down I packed up my tent and plodded out.
The remaing 11km were some of the grimmest I have ever run every joint muscle and bone hurt, but the thought of a lovely hot curry and a nice cold drink spurred me on.
Met my mum just passed Linne of Dee to conclude my trip.
Which is summerised as
161.66km
5074m
3 days 3 hours 16minutes
Solo and unsupported
All in all probably the hardest thing I've ever done.
Thoughts if I were to do it again:
Train before hand
Bring a bug net
