Misc 1:30:00 [5]

Played the full game, it just wasn't meant to be. First of all, we aren't finishing properly. Their first goal was impressive but also complete luck, rattled off the post, there was nothing defensively we could have done to stop it. A mistake from one of our midfielders gave them a clear breakaway and they finished it. We got one back through some good composure of our forward, but the ref had it out for us. We got a red card and four yellow cards, which is insane for school soccer. Every single card happened without a foul. In every case, the other team tackled our team hard, guys sprawled on the ground and one of our guys leaving the field due to injury. But no calls, not once. Two probably penalties ignored by the ref, and several no-calls that easily could have left our players injured, especially one of our top players that had his ankles stepped on every 5 minutes. They wouldn't stop talking either, always telling us to stop diving and just take it, which is some stupid stuff from a team whose strategy is to lay you out on the ground to prevent attacks. Every single card was from our players talking to the ref. It wasn't disrespectful either. They were just saying words to the ref, asking him to protect our players so we don't end up with half of us injured. Both our captains got sent off, one with a red, which is even worse because the purpose of having captains is that they are (theoretically) the only players that talk to the ref to prevent having players surround a ref trying to talk to him. Meanwhile, the other team is trash-talking us and telling us to shut up if we make a peep, and they're complaining to the ref, and he just takes it and lets it happen.

Lost 2-1. Next game, this one isn't worth the frustration but it's hard not to be angry.

Orienteering 13:35 [5] 3.1 km (4:23 / km) +60m 4:00 / km

Heading into this one, I was thinking of taking it easy. The chances I get into the championship are pretty small and I'd rather be full strength when I race for sixth place. The heat included Adam Woods, Ian Collings, Peteris, and Siri. The race starts, and all that goes out the window, so there goes that plan. I get dropped pretty quick by Peteris, Ian, and Adam, but after the first two controls I keep them in my sights for the rest of the race, running about their pace. Final two controls, I out-kicked Peteris and snagged third place. I got the fifth qualification spot for the final!!

I was only about half a minute (?) behind Adam Woods and got myself fourth place. Very happy with my race but I'm pooped. Very technical garden section that was fun to run in.

Orienteering warm up/down 20:00 [2]

Orienteering race 7:29 [5] 1.6 km (4:41 / km) +20m 4:24 / km
shoes: Adidas Supernova

Future reference:
All warm-ups are approximately 20 minutes and include jogging, dynamics, and light stretching.
Forgot my watch in Minnesota, so time is obviously total split time and distance is estimated best-route according to the handbook.

Seeded 7th, good race, knocked into Julia's thigh but seems like everything's alright.

Orienteering race 18:09 [3] 3.1 km (5:51 / km) +100m 5:03 / km
shoes: Adidas Supernova

Won heat, but tiring race. Park, very green with little trails strung throughout. Route-choice screw-up on 1 and bad mental mistake on 3, so loss of confidence there, but built it back up during the rest of the course and no mistakes after that. Luckily my race was salvaged

Orienteering 14:44 [5] 3.1 km (4:45 / km) +15m 4:38 / km
shoes: Adidas Supernova

On the campus, won heat, good race against Julia for most of it. Very flat, very building-infested, and basically just a 10-second bobble not realizing I can climb a hill and another one not realizing a wall is gray and not black, along with a small route-choice mistake that wasn't actually that bad.
8 PM

Orienteering 14:06 [5] 3.3 km (4:16 / km) +50m 3:58 / km
shoes: Adidas Supernova

Golf-course night-o, very fun.
