Well, more good happened on this training than I wanted to believe. but 5-6-7-8 were atrocious.

Practice out at Story, looking for a control that might have been left after the ICO event there last month. Rob designed a course that ended where the missing control was set.

Little bobble to 1, but S-5, my route looks fairly good. I was not very well focused, and getting through the vegetation efficiently was tough.

I wanted to go low to 6, but was pushed up hill by some downed trees. I still had some good map contact here, and decided to bail back down hill to the stream. But, there was alot more downed trees that getting through was difficult. I definitely got lost, and ran around a while until I realized I was running in circles. So far, I cannot line up what I was thinking and seeing with what my route shows. Eventually I recognized I was at a spot where I initially tried to attack 6 from originally, and finally got to the right spot for 6. When I was pushed up hill, I probably should have just taken that route, but I was wanting to avoid the green slash that I would have to go through, and the stream seemed safer.

Going to 7, I still had an unexplainable turn in direction down hill halfway through the leg. Had some more confusion approaching and exiting 7.

Got to 8, decided to skip 9, but 8-F was excellent, navigationally.

Unfortunately, I saw no signs of the missing control, looked around a few minutes, and headed back to the parking lot.

Between today, Mounds and the Wapehani practice I did, I feel like i really struggle with greener vegetation. I had a great run at Story a few weeks ago, I should know Mounds like the back of my hand, but with the veg grown up, I really struggle. I think I rely on seeing big features farther away, but with lower visibility, I cant do that. I think I'm learning my map contact is not as good as I think it is.
