Friday Sep 29

cycling 45:00 [3]
Once again, I dragged myself and my dad out of bed at 6:00 although I didn't find it as hard this time. It was supposed to be an endurance class, but it ended up being a little bit of everything. We did some hills, some flats, intervals, everything. Then I had to race of to get to band on time...

Thursday Sep 28

warm-up run/intervals 30:00 [4]
Dragged myself out of bed this morning to make it to x-country and we had a pretty good practise. Did a warm-up loop that was actually pretty fast and then after our stretching, we started the actual practise. I was in the 1st heat which did 6 loops in 25min. The first loop was really fast so I fell behind and just went at my own pace. The loop consists of running down a hill at the beginning, and then up it again near the end. It was pretty tiring, but I did make the 6 loops except in 27min. Not sure a long the loop is, but I'm guessing between 1 and 1.5km.

Wednesday Sep 27

orienteering 1:00:00 [3]**
spiked:13/15c
Had another junior training thingymadooer where Stefan set 2 sprint courses which were a lot of fun. The first one had a lot of route choices and I did bobble a few where I wasn't reading my map very closely near the control and lost about 15sec. I had a pretty good pace going the whole way which was good. The second one was more of a one-route-to-the-control kinda thing but you did need to read the map pretty carefully. My orienteering was sooo much better than Sunday thankfully.

Tuesday Sep 26

orienteering 1:00:00 [3]**
I had a field hockey game at the Nepean Sportsplex so my dad and Eric came after the game so that we could train in the woods. It was pretty funny because as we were getting ready, one of my coaches drove by and asked where I was going to now? I answered "into the woods!" Then as we were all running past my other coach with our cleats clicking, I just smiled and said I'd see him at practise tomorrow morning. Then, as we were running past the bus, I waved to the rest of the team and Eric said that I was becoming a legend even before I got out of gr 9!! I think that everybody thinks I'm the crazy athelete!!! Anyways, on to the actual run. We took turns leading and following on the map which was fun. Went at a pretty good pace and there were only a fewe spots where things were alittle confusing.
school sports (ultimate) 45:00 [1]
Had another sick team for ultimate and we won or tied all of our games. They have learned to fear the "Mixed Berries". That's what we were called since we weren't all yellow (bananas) red (strawberries) blue (guess the fruit). It was pretty windy today so you had to be careful to not throw at an angle.

Monday Sep 25

school sports (ultimate) 45:00 [1]
Wow, what an awesome gym class. We started ultimate frisby and when we made teams, there was me, anther good player, and then the other 3 people were pretty good. I don't think anybody ever got a point so we dominated all of the teams!!! I hope we can play ultimate all week.
Oh ya, at the beginning of the class, we did 2 laps around the field which was fun except for the big puddle at one end.

Sunday Sep 24

orienteering race 1:55:00 [3]**** 6.4 km (17:58 / km)
11c
It was such a hard course today!!! The whole thing was in the woods and I just wasn't in the orienteering mood. Control 1 and 2 were ok, on the way to 3, I went through a bunch of clearings and I just couldn't tell which ones they were. So I lost a lot of time there. Then 4 was a disaster!!! I was sucked inbetween 2 hills that I didn't want to be between and got totally disoriented and had to relocate of these big cliffs. 5 was a stupid map reading mistake. I found these boulders that looked perfect to fit into the ones on the map, but I hadn't gone far enough. So I lost a lot of time there running to and from the boulders trying to figure it out. Finally 6 and 7 actually worked out for me and 8 wasn't too bad. Just once I got to the trail, I wasn't sure of where so I ran down a bit the wrong way but figured it out pretty quickly. 9 was pretty good too since it was a bingo control so I'm lucky I didn't screw that one up. 10 was a funny leg. I had plan A which was to go around the swamp along the hill and then into the control. So I started running but ended up on the wrond side of the green and into a clearing. So then I come up with plan B, which is to run across the clearing and then across the swamp in a different spot than I had originaly planned. I look ahead, and I see the "crossable" swamp that looks pretty much like a pond so I come up with plan C, which is to run out to the trail which turned out to be pretty good. The only problem was that once I got off the trail, I came to this cliff with a rock pile beside it which fitted right into where the control should be. There was even a ribbon that had the date and OOC on it. But, no control. Fortunately, another runner came along and said that the control should be farther south than this. After that the rest of the race was pretty good but now I'm very very sore, the woods in there are not white at all!!!

Saturday Sep 23

school sports (field hockey tournament) 2:00:00 [2]
Had my first tournament and it was cold, rainy, and very wet. For our first 3 games I played for 1/2 and then the 4th, for almost the whole game which was fun. We lost 4-0 to this Kingston team who were really good so I guess it was ok. Our second game I think we played against Earl of March and only lost 1-0. Then finally on our 3rd game where we played SRB, we tied 1-1. YAY!!! Our 4th game didn't go so well, but I definitely played my hardest which is why I stayed on for pratically the whole game.

Friday Sep 22

cycling intervals 45:00 [3]
It wasn't too hard to get out of bed, but still 6:00am is pretty brutal. It was an interval class which I haven't had in a while, but it was fun. Did a bunch of sprinting seated and standing which was tough. We also had a 6min hill which wasn't too bad, but still tough since it was level 7.
weights 30:00 [5]
We stretched for a bit, and then we got this 1 day training program thingymadooer that we were supposed to do for the rest of the class. Did some dumbells and a lot of arm stuff. It's really freaky when you're doing some exercises and your muscles start twitching. But all of them with 10reps with 3 sets. The one where you lie on your back and then push up 15kg is really hard. The first set is pretty easy, the second it feels heavier, and the third is really hard!!!

Thursday Sep 21

running tempo (x-country practise) 45:00 [4]
Ran down to the beach again and did more loops which was a lot of fun!!! I felt really strong the whole way!!! The midget girls (me) were supposed to do 6 loops, but when I was passing the coach, he asked if I was doing 15, so I said, "sure." Although I only got to 8 because then we had to get back. The run back was intense!!! Ian Donald led the way and ran us sooo hard!!! It was almost painful, but I still enjoyed it a lot. After the practise, Mr. Fischer asked what category I was in, and when I said midget, he didn't believe me. I think that he though I was a very short gr 12 because he's never seen a gr 9 run like that. Hehe, that's pretty funny. :-)
C • XC races, too? 6

Wednesday Sep 20

weights warm up/down (yoga and weights) 1:00:00 [1]
Thankfully, instead of doing core, we did some yoga with some pretty funky music and then some weights. Did this leg press thingymapusher with 90lbs of weights along with the slider thing's weight which was an accomplishment.
cycling hills 45:00 [3]
First class of the year and it felt pretty weird to get back on the bike but I really enjoyed it. We had a strength class along with a 25min hill!!! That was hard but I definitely got my money's worth!!! Another class Friday except at 6:30am!!!

Tuesday Sep 19

weights (phys. ed) 50:00 [5]
Some more core which was painful. I hate the way your abs start burning after a bunch of sit-ups, nothing like running. After that, we did this "fun" fitness thingymadooer. It consisted of flexibilty, endurance, strength and some other sections. For endurance we had to do 2 different jumps 200x and then jump on each foot 50x. Another one was running on the spot for 2 min and then holding your breath for 30sec. I pretty much sucked for flexibilty, it never really was my strongest point, but strength was painful. We had to put our head on a bench, then without using our hands, keeping ourselves off the ground for 30sec. Doesn't sound that hard, but it is!!! Anyways, wouldn't call it fun, but it was an experience!!
running 45:00 [3]5.5 km (8:11 / km)
Made it to a x-country practise and we ran down to the tennis courts and back. The first 2km were pretty slow, maybe a zone 2, but once we got to the 1/2 way point, we pushed it up to zone 3. Then the next aobut 5 blocks it was zone 4. And finally the last 3 blocks were full out sprinting. Pretty good practise, and about what I have to run for the race. Well, maybe 2km less, but if I go at those speeds, I think I should do pretty well.

Monday Sep 18

running (field hockey) 20:00 [3]
Had our 2nd field hockey practise and did some running which was a lot of fun. I think I'm the fastest out of all the girls because they were getting pretty tired after 4 times across the field. I think field hickey will be fun because it involves a lot of running!!!
weights (phys. ed) 45:00 [5]
Had our first day in the weight room and did a bunch a weight lifting and some core!!! Now my stomach is soooo sore!!! I haven't really done a lot of sit-ups or push-ups, so I'm not used to it. I can't say that lifting weights is my favourite thing to do, but it's a change.

Sunday Sep 17

orienteering race 1:08:00 [3]*** 7 km (9:43 / km)
spiked:9/12c
What a brutal race!!! The whole course except for 3 controls was in this field. Now, this field is usually eaten down to short grass by the cows, and the combonation of a lot of rain and no cows, made it about thigh high!!! Very tiring to run through!!! I had a good start to the race, only a small mistake on control 2 but then came the field. I was doing pretty well until control 8. I had passed my dad twice, and had taken side routes around the field through the woods which was better, but then from control 8 to 1/2 way to 11, it was all through the field. I walked practically the whole thing because I was just so exhausted!!! What's really sad, is that the best time was 44min!!! That's crazy!!! I would've had to run the whole thing and still I wouldn't have gotten under 50min!!! Oh well, maybe I'll just have to brind a few cows with me next time. ;-)

Saturday Sep 16

orienteering 1:25:00 [3]***
My dad and I drove out to the map in Gatineau close to the Mackenzie King Estate to do some o-training which was fun. We just chose some features on the map for controls sometimes 2 or 3 in a row and then ran the legs. On one of them, I got really lost and while I was bailing out to the trail, I saw this re-emtrant, so I ran over to try and relocate. There was this giant cliff there which also happened to be the control I was looking for. Hehe, I should've bailed sooner!!! On the way back, the trail we took was alllllll uphill and I was practically dieing because I was so tired!!!

Friday Sep 15

school sports (soccer baseball) 55:00 [1]
Soccer baseball is such a sick game!!! And you gert to run a lot more than in baseball. I love kicking and running the bases the best because that's the most intense. Our supply gym teacher commented on how I love to run because I was running all over the place!!! So there you go.

Thursday Sep 14

running 45:41 [3]
Had our first x-country practise and it was sweet. Ran down to the river at a 5km pace and then did some intervals. It consisted of a loop that went along the beach, up the hill to the parkway, along the parkway and then back down the hill to the start. We did it one time to get the feel of it, I think one more time before we did the loop sprinting. After that one, we did 2 slower ones and then one last hard one. All through that I managed to keep up the the 3 super fast runners in the lead. My goal was that anyways so that was pretty awesome. Then we did a really slow jog back. There's a practise tomorrow except I can't go because of band...

Wednesday Sep 13

weights 45:00 [3]
Went to Bifolchi's Gym/the weight room and did a bunch of stuff.First, we did the rotation thing with the gym class which was fun. I never knew that doing sit-ups on a ball could be so painful. My abs were burning by 1min!!! Anyways, on the bikes, i did some jumps which were fun and then the steps. After that thingymarotation, we were allowed to just do whatever we wanted. On the universal I did a bunch of things and I lifted a bunch of weight with my legs which was fun.

Tuesday Sep 12

running tempo 45:00 [3]
Had an awesome run this morning, we did the usualy loop except that we ran down a bit farther down the parkway before we turned around to head back. The beginning was a zone 4 definitely and then we slowed when we got into the long stretch down and back along the river. Thankfully, didn't feel totally exhausted like I did the last time even though I only got 7hrs of sleep.

Monday Sep 11

running 15:00 [2]
Had the first field hockey try-out and it's really tough. I usually shoot left in hockey, but this sport you have to shoot right. That really screwed me up for sure!!! The good thing about it is that it's a running sport so when we did our running training, I led everybody around the field. So I'm going for midfield because then I can run around like crazy. Sounds like fun!!!

Sunday Sep 10

orienteering race (farsta) 54:19 [3]*** 8.5 km (6:23 / km)
What a sick farsta!!! There were 3 maps that were colour coded. Eric, Robbie and I all started on the same map but Eric got ahead at control 4 because he saw the control first, hmph... Anyways, then it ended up that Robbie and I had the same maps the whole race. I was thinking, o god!!! I was leading for the first 6 controls before he passed me and then I didn't see him until control 3 on the next map. It ended up that Eric and Robbie tied exactly to the second, and I was 1min 10sec behind. Pretty sweet. I'm pretty happy with my orienteering the whole way through though. Got off on one control because my bearing was screwy, but that was really the only big mistake. Oh ya, and 4 on the first map, but. Wiped out of the second last control coming down the hill which sucked because then I had to sprint in with this throbbing pain. Really excellent race though.

Saturday Sep 9

orienteering (sprints) 40:00 [4]*** 6 km (6:40 / km)
spiked:18/22c
Had a junior training session at Kanata Lakes which was a blast. We used the sprint that was in July but I hadn't run it yet. It was a really fun course and very fast. The first time I ran it, I think my time was 18min and the second time 19min. The second time, we did it backwards and I chose a really different route choice to 9 which turned out to be really slow. Jeff, Eric, and my dad caught up but then I made up time at 6 and lost it again at 2 and 1. Even though it was super cold, it was still a lot of fun!!!
C • training splits 1

Friday Sep 8

running 34:13 [3]6 km (5:42 / km)
Did the usual loop again except didn't do the little extra loop near the beginning. I was really tired so near the end I was almost seeing black spots, but I made it back to my house with just enough time to get ready for school.

Thursday Sep 7

Note
Won't be able to get out for a run today, so I think that I'll run up and down the stairs for 20mins...

Monday Sep 4

running hills (The Charleston Hill) 27:00 [3]
I didn't really feel like going a distance today, so instead we did, the Hill. It's not as hard as the one here, but it's the biggest one near our cottage. Did it 10 times consistently at 1:30 which was pretty good. Felt good the whole way through and I really picked it up on our run back down the road. I think I was going so fast because I was thinking about cross-country starting up... :-)

Sunday Sep 3

running long 1:25:00 [2]
Drove down to the Trinagle X-country ski trails although we didn't go skiing... It's a very dense network of trails in there and we didn't have a map, so whenever we got to a junction, we'd decide: left or right, and then went to chech it out. My shin got pretty beat up from the raspberries, and we got pretty wet and muddy, but it was still a lot of fun. Longest run we've done since the COC's and I felt pretty good to be back out in the woods.

Saturday Sep 2

running 55:00 [3]
Just ran down the road until it turned into an ATV trail and down to the house and the barn that seems to be in the middle of nowhere. I had a great run the whole time, I was feeling like SUPERWOMAN!!!! Ok, not quite that good, but almost... :-)
