Wednesday Apr 30

running warm up/down 10:00 [1]
warmup run and a's b's and c's before we started the actual track practice
running 35:00 [3]
not sure of the actual distance, but we're guessing somewhere around 6 or 7km. was wonderful to actually go for a run and not just run around the field, or do the same old boring loop around the school! went down to the river and kept up a pretty good pace all the way out to champlain, and then picked it up a bit for the way back to the school.
ultimate 15:00 [3]
guess you could almost call catching the last bit of ultimate practice my cooldown... but it was still pretty tough. got one long bomb, and it would've been sick if i had actually caught it... i was soooooo close!!! i had it just in my hands.... but then i think i kinda half dived, and fell, and the frisbee went flying into the ground and yeah... not so great.
orienteering 1:01:53 [3]
A variation of the original permanent course as part of the junior training. Lots of fun to be out in the woods dodging all of the friggin saplings. a bit too familiar with the course, but the controls that my dad changed were definitely tricky!!! messed up a bit on 3 even though that one wasn't changed... not exactly sure what happened there. 7 was especially beautiful running right down the re-entrants, actually reading my control description and then spiking the control. 8... i was a little bit too preoccupied with getting to the top of the hill to notice that the control was actually a bit to the right. Wasn't too hard to find once i finally realized it, but i still ended up climbing up 1 or 2 extra contours. took a different route to 10, going around to the right of the hill instead of the left. was gorgeous running until i had to scramble up the hill to get to the control. 12... 12 was very sneaky. my dad said that he bet that i would have to stop going to that one... and i almost did, i got down to a walk. so hah! it looked sooo simple on the map, but then inside the circle, it's a mess of hills and cliffs and boulders that just makes everything so confusing!!! had to take a bit of a detour to 13 since i didn't really feel like bungee jumping off a huge cliff and into a swamp... but other than that it was fine!

Tuesday Apr 29

running 35:00 [2]
kind of the same loop as yesterday ceot a bit shorter... super duper windy down by the river but still a gorgeous day.
strength 40:00 [3]
some agility excercises in gym class on the ladder thingymadooer followed by some sick circuit stuff!!!
cycling 10:00 [1]
biking to paul's and back.
canoeing 15:00 [4]
went out on the river to practice a little bit before the adventure race this weekend. super duper friggin windy with foot and a half high waves... and i was in the middle sitting in a puddle doing my best to paddle. quite an adventure for sure!!!

Monday Apr 28

running 20:00 [1]
Warmup run and A's, B's, and C's for track.

and then 2 cool down laps afterwards
running intervals 15:00 [4]
did some intervals around the track where we sprinted the staightaways and then walked the corners.
weights 30:00 [4]
in the lower gym for class
running 47:41 [3]
Did a combination of routes going down island park and then cutting through some woods to get to the river. then all the way down to woodroffe and back on the trail instead of on the path. really wet and yucky for the first part, but then at least it stopped raining a little bit for the last 1/2
running 10:00 [1]

Sunday Apr 27

orienteering 1:05:33 [3]
Did the 'permanent' course up at Cite des Jeunes, though a lot of the ribbons are missing so it's not really permanent anymore. even though i've done this course a bunch of times, i still had trouble 5 and 9 but the rest was fun. no more snow!! woohoo!!! just a little wet in a lot of swampy areas.

Saturday Apr 26

running hills 15:00 [3]
Ran up Mount Mooney 10 times as our warmup for the o-training... yeah.....
orienteering 31:00 [3]
Same o-training that the juniors did on wednesday that couldn't get to. the whole pupose of the exercise was to read your control descriptions really well so that you knew exactly where the 'control' would be once you got into the circle. what made it really tricky was that the 'control' was a little piece of paper nailed into the ground. had trouble on a few of them, but some of the control sites were a little sketchy.

Friday Apr 25

running warm up/down 10:00 [3]
"Warmup" run of two laps around the school, but by the second lap, it had turned into a tempo run! ah!!
running 15:00 [3]
Running laps around the field... super duper boring!!! first set of 5 were at an easier pace, next 5 were hard, and then the last 4 were pretty slack cause the other long distance runners and i kinda cut a few corners plus a whole lap.. teehee it was mind numbing anyways.
running 6:00 [5]
Got to the school for my concert, opened up my trombone case... and uh oh, not mouthpiece. had to sprint home and back to get it... and i did it in record time!!!
strength 15:00 [4]

Thursday Apr 24

running warm up/down 30:00 [1]
all of the warming up and cooling down i did for all 4 of my races
running race 5:22 [5]1.5 km (3:35 / km) vdot: 50.3
First race of the day... kinda settled into a nice comfy pace and didn't really bother trying to keep up to the pickering girl who was leading for all of the race except for the 20sec where i had the lead!! yay!!
running race 1:10 [5]0.4 km (2:55 / km)
Most intense 400 i have ever run!! a few girls started out wayyyyy too fast and burned out at the 200m mark so it was just me, this girl who was leading, and then in second, just a few steps ahead of me, a girl from Beatice-Desloges. i was soooo incredibly tired, and my legs and arms were completely numb, but we came out onto the final straightaway, and we were both just booking it. i wasn't sure if i was gonna be able to catch her, but i had some beef with her, so the last 10m, i just sprinted my guts out, and i leaned over the finish line, yes i actually leaned over it... and i beat her by 0.04 seconds!!! holy macaroni!!!!!! defintiely a photo finish!
running race 5:40 [5]1.5 km (3:47 / km) vdot: 47.3
Steeplechase!!! without water!!! :(
had a pretty good race, though i didn't push it enough on the last lap and so i couldn't pass the girl who was leading... shucks!
running race 1:10 [5]0.4 km (2:55 / km)
I have no clue what my time was since it was the 400m in the medley relay. i think i did alright though.
C • Great Job!!! 4

Wednesday Apr 23

cycling 1:00:00 [3]
Rocking the roads on the way to tutoring!!! a new pr of 22min!!! yeah!!! the way back wasn't as fast since the roads were wet from a thunderstorm that fortunately stopped about 2 sec before i stepped out the door.

also biking to and from band practice with my trombone on my back... got a few interesting looks...

Tuesday Apr 22

school sports 25:00 [3]
most intense game of fireball i have ever played!!! had a few rivals going on between classmates which made it even more exciting!!!

played some bugby afterwards which is just basketball and rugby put together... kinda weird, but really physically demanding!!

Sunday Apr 20

orienteering race 36:42 [5]
Crazy start for the relay, but once i got out into the woods it was alright. calf was cramping up like crazy which sucked on the hills, but i still really enjoyed the course!

Relay - Green Leg - Splits

Saturday Apr 19

Event: US Middle Distance and Relay Champs

running warm up/down 10:00 [1]
Running around before the start of the middle... it was depressing starting so late.
orienteering race 38:55 [4]
Pretty good race with only a 2min bobble on control 8. hit the rest of the controls bang on and then only had to worry bout getting up those hills!!! holy macaroni!!! what a blast though!! felt so good to be out racing in the woods again!!
orienteering race 14:53 [5]
Didn't make any mistakes on the sprint, but i was still kinda slow on some of the hills and through the woods. great course that really kept me on my toes the whole time!

Sprint 3 - Splits

Red - Splits

Thursday Apr 17

running warm up/down 20:00 [1]
all of my warmp and cooldown for both of my races
running race 2:36 [5]0.8 km (3:15 / km)
terrible race... started out alright... but by the second lap i had settled into too comfortable of a pace and didn't really feel like i was racing at all... not a very spectacular finish...
running race 11:36 [5]3 km (3:52 / km) vdot: 49.7
tons better than the 800m race!!! got up to 2nd in about 1 1/2 laps and then stayed there with another girl only a few steps behind me for the rest of the race. wasn't sure if she was gonna pass me on the last one, but i picked it up and managed to hold her off!! yay!!!

Wednesday Apr 16

school sports (basketball) 15:00 [2]
so much for a rest day... intense b-ball game in gym class!!!
C • Dome 1
cycling 23:00 [2]
biking to tutoring.., thankfully didn't have to fear for my live at all!!!

Tuesday Apr 15

running warm up/down 25:00 [1]
warm up run around both schools and then some A's, B's, and C's

2 cool down laps around the schools.
running intervals 28:00 [4]
4 x 5min hard with 2min of rest between each one. most of the team cheated and didn't run for the full 5min, so it was only me and another guy left doing the very last one.
running warm up/down 15:00 [1]
warmup and cooldown before intervals... lots more A's, B's, and C's... woohoo!
running 30:00 [4]
Down Princeton to Denbury to Kenwood, and then up Hillcrest.

did 1 loop, 2 loops, 3 loops, 3 loops, 2 loops, 1 loop with 1.5 min of rest
Note
alright, well two interval trainings in the same 4hrs was pretty brutal. didn't have a lot left for the second one, and my right calf and a little twingy thingy which is kinda weird, but i think i'm gonna take a rest day tomorrow to see if it goes away. really don't want to blow it for the track meet on thursday, and even more importantly for the race this weekend.

Monday Apr 14

running warm up/down 15:00 [1]
running down the canal and back as a warmup
orienteering intervals 50:00 [3]
Over at Ottawa U for some more o-tervals!!! lots of fun though it was a bit trickier than last time cause there were a bunch more people to dodge and i was always afraid that i was going to run right into somebody coming around a corner. did a few that i had put right on the map, but then our last one was one we just made up. was super duper hard cause we were running head to head and we had to remember what the next control was!!! ahhhhh!!!! still fun though!!! :P
strength 15:00 [5]

Sunday Apr 13

running 33:00 [2]
Had to run the whole way to Carleton cause Eric was supposed to catch up to me... but he just never did...
running 50:00 [2]
Warm up run down to Bank St. and back before starting the intervals, the rest time between them, and finally the cool down run back to Athletics.
running intervals 14:00 [4]4 km (3:30 / km)
1km intervals down along the canal. last two were the worst since we were against the wind.
C • along the canal 2
cycling 15:00 [1]
biking while eric ran
running 20:00 [2]
from the end of the farm, all the way home.

Friday Apr 11

running warm up/down 15:00 [1]
Running around both schools for a warmup and cooldown and then sooooo many A's, B's and C's across the lower gym.
running 15:00 [2]
Jumping over benches and then skipping for 6 whole minutes!!!! ahhhhhhh!!!!
running warm up/down 20:00 [1]
Warmup and cooldown run over to the hill and back. super duper cold and windy and rainy... just lovely!!
running hills 16:00 [3]
Same hill intervals as usual... although there was actually grass on the hill to run on!!! woohoo!!!!! friggin cold... but still... there was grass!!!!!!! hooray!!!!!!

Thursday Apr 10

running 20:00 [1]
A bunch of A's, B's, and C's, followed by a warm up run round both of the schools.
running 20:00 [3]
Tempo run with the team. Lost a few people over the whole loop, so it ended up just being me and another guy for the last half.
strength 15:00 [5]
The usual!!!
Really noticing a difference in the number of push-ups and chin-ups (or at least a form of chin-ups...) i can do! Hooray!!!

Wednesday Apr 9

running 20:00 [3]
Hard part of track practice - tempo run down to the mall and back.
C • Dome track meet 2
running 15:00 [2]
A's, B's, C's, and a cooldown run.
cycling 45:00 [3]
To and from tutoring. Not much of a dangerous adventure, though getting onto Woodroffe was rather interesting.
strength 15:00 [4]

Tuesday Apr 8

running 25:00 [3]
Got to skip half of band to go to the rest of the track practice! made it for the last 2 interval loop thingymadooers.
running warm up/down 20:00 [2]
Warm-up and coold-down for the intervals.
running intervals 30:00 [4]
4 x 5min hard intervals with 2min rest between each one. ran with troy for all of it; 2 of them i was bout 10m behind, and then for the other 2 i was right with him.
strength 15:00 [4]

Sunday Apr 6

running warm up/down 20:00 [1]
Running up and down the canal as a warm-up.
orienteering intervals 1:00:00 [3]
O-tervals around the ottawa u campus! nice to change it up to a different map that's actually sprint standard!!! really tricky with all the stairs and different overhang thingymadooers, but still tons of fun!!
running 30:00 [2]
Too nice of a day to not go out again, so I dragged Molly out on her roller blades and we did the usual loop. Was rather interesting having her along, though it did make the run rather exciting. Had to help pull her up the hill on Churchill which must've looked rather interesting...

Saturday Apr 5

cycling 15:00 [1]
Eric and I only had one bike for the both of us to get to Carlton, so we took turns on it and I biked from home to just past Carling while he ran.
running 20:00 [2]
My turn to run!!
running 45:00 [2]
Longish run just around Dows Lake and back with Eric, Robbie, Alex, and Jeff. Not so much fun running through the snow through the Arboretum... but I guess I can't complain since the soft snow means that it's all finally melting!!!!! Yay!!!
orienteering 35:00 [3]
Had a bunch of mini races around the campus just from one point to another. Lots of different route choice though I think Eric, Robbie, and Jeff definitely had an advantage since they spend 5 days there a week... hehe it was still a blast and fun to do a little racing before the season starts up.
running 25:00 [2]
Running back while Eric biked... and I was nice and ran for more than half :P
cycling 10:00 [1]
cycling 55:00 [3]
Biking to Brookfield to go see an OJJB concert. Pretty sweet.

Scariest fall of my life though!! Cut through the farm and then went straight down the canal, and I went underneath a bridge and there was this very innocent looking puddle. So I'm going at a pretty good clip, but then as I start going through the puddle, I realize that because it's in the shade, there's a layer of ice underneath the water. Everything after that was slow motion. My bike flew out from underneath me, I went down in the puddle, and my head went back and hit the cement ledge on the side of the path. Thank goodness helmets were invented... cause otherwise that would've been nasty. Only ended up with really wet pants, and a bit of a headache, but coming back, I made sure to walk my bike through the puddle even though this 60 yr old guy was riding his bike through.

Friday Apr 4

strength 2:00 [4]
75 sit-ups as part of our fitness testing.
running 45:00 [3]
first track practice!!! woot woot!!! lead the stair runs around the school and then did some more sprints in the gym.
running 27:00 [2]
A nice nightime run with my dad just doing the island park loop. great night for running plus i felt fabulously fast!!

Thursday Apr 3

running 20:00 [5]
BEEPTEST!!!!!!! everybody in my class hates them... but i just get so excited as soon as i hear that first beep... and then i'm just in the zone running back and forth across the gym! ran with the gr 11 guys again and so i had some good competition!! :P At level 10 there was just one other girl and me, and then bout 5 or 6 other guys, and then by 12 there was just me and 2 other guys. My last pb was 12.7 so i wanted to get past that... and then by the time that beep came around, there was just me and another guy left. but then he stopped at 12.8 and so i got to finish it off ending at level 13!!! yay!!!! new pb... but now i gotta beat that again for the last beep test!!!!
C • Track 4
running warm up/down 20:00 [2]
Convinced my dad to come with me this time... and it was his first run of the year!!! Fun fun!!!
running hills 16:00 [4]
8 times on the hill. legs were dead, but still managed to get them all in keeping with the 2min intervals.
strength 15:00 [4]
Didn't quite have enough to go for the full zone 5 workout. still tough though.

Wednesday Apr 2

weights 50:00 [3]
In the lower gym again and doing more arms then yesterday... only problem was that right afterwards i had to hold my trombone up for an hour!!! absolutely brutal!!!
cycling 50:00 [2]
To tutoring again... cept this time i didn't have to run!!! yay!!!! had a little trouble on woodroffe when i had to get past the exit ramp from the 417. really scary biking right down the middle of the road with cars whizzing past on both sides, but thankfully some nice person actually slowed down so that i could get over to the right side of the road again!! phew!

Tuesday Apr 1

weights 40:00 [3]
In the lower gym doing various weight stuff.
running 20:00 [1]
Warm-up and Cool-down
running intervals 40:00 [4]
Brutal intervals!!! Did a u-loop which wouldn't have been so bad if it wasn't for the wind. Great loop though with a little bit of a hill and between to long stretches. Ran it 7 times with about 2min rest while walking back to the start.
