Thursday Jan 31

running 1:25:00 [2]
Took advantage of the crusted over snow to get back down to the river, and it was fabulous! Wore my o-shoes which was an excellent idea since there was a lot of ice, and went all the way down to Booth St. and back. Took a few detours to make a snow angel, check out the railway, and a mysterious tire track that went from the path right off a ledge into the river... hmmm. rather ominous!
gorgeous day! gorgeous temperature! everything was just absolutely gorgeous! until it got dark and i couldn't see the path anymore so i kept falling into deep foot prints and going over on my ankle. still fun though!

Wednesday Jan 30

X-country skiing (skate) 2:00:00 [2]
Worked on technique, skied the potential course for the qualifying races, then some more technique while being video taped... which i always seem to totally wipe out in... joy! oh and finished off with a fun but blustery relay!!!
cycling (mountain) 50:00 [3]
A gorgeous day for biking since everything was covered in ice the tires didn't sink in at all!! a little slippery but that was only if you took the corners to hard. Went to all of my fav mountain biking spots but was confined to where people had walked cause that's where it was the most packed down. Hampton Park was more speed which was fun, but over by the Parkway was soo technical since the trails are so much narrower. Sooooo windy going down the streets... i was actually pedaling at one point, and not moving!!!!! absolutely ridiculous!!!

Tuesday Jan 29

skating (hockey) 45:00 [1]
Playing around on the rink with Caitlin
strength 15:00 [5]
Shoveling off a hailstone covered rink... fun!
strength 15:00 [5]
skating (hockey) 40:00 [3]

Monday Jan 28

skating (hockey) 1:15:00 [4]
Such an intense game!!! actually a few intense games!!! went down to the rink at around 7ish and played a not so intense game with a bunch of people. Then walked my friend home and ran back to join in again. By then a few more people had left and I finally started really getting into the game! Did some mad deaking and dangling and even got a few goals!!! :P Kinda scary playing with guys who are all a foot taller than me... but i held my own on the ice and never got run over!!
cycling 45:00 [3]
Biked to my friends and back and had a little bit of fun going through Hampton Park. Biked on all my favourite trails that were packed down and it wasn't so bad. A little slippery going up the hills, but other than that it was great! Now I just gotta convince my dad to go to Kanata Lakes...
skating 1:00:00 [1]
Actually skated for about 2hrs, but it wasn't such high intensity... taught my friend who hadn't skated in 2yrs how to stop, skate backwards, and turn around... lots of fun!! no beaver tails though... still full from greek lunch!! mmm...

Saturday Jan 26

running 28:35 [2]
Took a lot of willpower to get out the door, but I just ran the usual 30min-ish loop anyways so it wasn't so bad. Gorgeous day though that meant that I was squinting the whole time.
C • Uh oh! 2
strength 15:00 [5]
Really really really early this morning... hehe
strength 31:00 [5]
slept:9.0
Totally went at it for two sets of the normal workout with 1min of rest inbetween. Switched up the order a little bit so that i wouldn't be doing a wallsit and then go right into jump squats, but no matter when i do the tricep pushups, they just always suck!!

Friday Jan 25

cycling 20:00 [4]
just biked down to the village but it was a bit harder than it should've been cause the bike i took was stuck on the hardest gear. lots of fun...
skating (hockey) 1:00:00 [1]
intense game at the rink... wasn't playing to hard though cause everybody else there was a foot taller than me and played much better hockey by far! got a few nice dangles though, and i even scored a goal!!!! hooray!!!

Thursday Jan 24

X-country skiing 50:00 [3]
Horrific ski... shins were cramping up the whole time and it was crunchy cold!! the snow was actually squeaking!! went up asticou and came out onto the parkway below pink lake hill. then booted it back to make it home in time for dinner. oh, i got to drive allll the way home!! hehe, very exciting!!
strength 15:00 [5]
gotta love late night core workouts!!!! only problem with those is that i hafta do burpies and jump squats relatively quietly cause everybody else in the house is sleeping!!

Tuesday Jan 22

strength 15:00 [5]
the norm

Monday Jan 21

X-country skiing (skate) 1:15:00 [3]
Skied around all over the place in and around the asticou trail and the parkway. did some hill work and finished off with some lovely intervals!!
strength 15:00 [5]

Sunday Jan 20

skating (hockey) 1:00:00 [3]
A really crunchy night... but it was just gorgeous with the moon and stars shining brightly!! played some hog with molly and my dad, then worked on dangling, and shooting on the net. actually out for longer, but the shooting didn't get the heart rate up too much, though the hog definitely did!!

Saturday Jan 19

skating (hockey) 1:30:00 [1]
A little bit of hockey on the rink with Molly, and then we just messed around with the puck at one end.

Friday Jan 18

strength 45:00 [4]
Ski practice before school!
running 5:00 [4]
running home to get back in time for my special birthday breakfast!!!!

Wednesday Jan 16

strength 15:00 [4]
as soon as i rolled out of bed so that i would be awake by the time i got to english class to write my essay.
X-country skiing 1:20:00 [3]
Got picked up by my dad in the school parking lot so that we could make it to the park before the traffic got really bad... and it was amazing!!! i don't think we had to stop once after island park!! we made it to gamelin in record time!!
skied down to asticou... up the friggin big hill and on to pink lake... then we skied up the hill on the parkway since the trail up is classic only... but we did ski back down on that trail since it was pretty easy to double pole on the flats and the downhill was awesome!!!

Monday Jan 14

running intervals 22:00 [3]
Just a quick run around since i had to drop off my skis at my locker since walking to school with my trombone and a pair of skis would suck majorly!! got a few funny looks as i walked into school... but it was definitely worth it.
on the way home, sprinted a block, and then jogged the next, which was fine until i had to sprint up the hill on keenan.
X-country skiing (skate) 1:40:00 [3]
i never skied so hard, and so fast, for such a long period of time in my whole entire life!!! we stayed pretty much in the same area, but while we were waiting for the slower skiers to catch up, a few of us would do loops, or out and back routes to keep warm. then once the whole team came, we did this one loop at a race pace and it was hard enough to keep up with the competitive racers let alone go for a whole 20min!! Then after that, Paul, Hollis and I went the long way back to Relais Plein Air by going all the way to Asticou, right up that giant hill, then along back down the S-turn into the field cause our other planned route has roped off. Great ofsaa training though!!! :P

Saturday Jan 12

running warm up/down 11:00 [2]
running to and from hillcrest... at the very last block, i just went all out sprinting just for fun and i think i set a new record for the fastest sprint down the block!
running intervals 21:00 [5]
Ran the loop starting from the bottom of the hill on Hillcrest, right up the hill, left down Princeton, another left onto Denbury, and then the cruise down the hill back to Byron. Ran really hard on that part, and then walked along Byron until I got to the bottom of the hill again. Only did it 4 times with about a 2min rest in between each one (it varied quite a bit) so i made a deal with myself that if i only did it 4 times, then i would really have to book it the last two. and book it i did! i booked it all the way up the hill, and then tried to keep pushing the pace as much as i could going down the hill as well.
i started out listening to music, and it was fine during the warmup, but once i got into the intervals, it just drove me crazy!! i couldn't concentrate at all and my pace really slowed down. my first interval was about 4min and that was with the music, my last 3 were without, and they were all about 30-45sec faster. not running with music again any time soon.

Friday Jan 11

running intervals 25:00 [3]
Ran with the ski team outside, after a bit of whining about how cold it was and that it was kinda raining we did some intervals which were a blast!! Sprinted up the hill right beside Nepean 3 times with a little bit of rest in between.
strength 20:00 [4]
more of heather's house of pain... woohoo.

Thursday Jan 10

running 26:00 [3]
strength 30:00 [4]
the normal set.
stairs 5:00 [5]
Note
a little bit more pressure to get to ofsaa... i'm missing the senior jazz band playing at the festival, so the music director demoted me and paul to playing, just not really playing. but now, if we don't end up going, then i'm not sure what the band is going to do cause the trombone section is all rearranged. so, with that in mind, i think that i will be doing some intense skiing right up until the qualifying race.

Wednesday Jan 9

running 10:00 [5]
Running to band in the rain too early in the morning... and then running home from band in the rain too late at night.

Tuesday Jan 8

cycling 35:00 [3]
Down to pick up Ian... against the wind... and then down to Fresh Air and back.. still against the wind!! I was pedaling so hard... but not going anywhere!!!!!

Monday Jan 7

running 1:04:00 [4]10.6 km (6:02 / km)
Decided on whim to run down to the river and maybe get to downtown... but that didn't quite happen since the was knee-deep snow all along the path. Pretty brutal, but great strength training so I stuck with it for 15min and made it all the way to some buried parkbench somewhere before Parkdale before turning around and running back to Island Park. At least on the way back I could step in my tracks so it wasn't as bad. Uber foggy too, which turned out to be good cause then nobody could see me stumbling along and I didn't feel like a total idiot... just half an idiot.

Saturday Jan 5

X-country skiing 1:00:00 [3]
Did the loop 3 times, the first two were at race pace, and then took the last one a bit slower since it was pretty dark.
snowshoeing 1:30:00 [1]
Tramping around looking for more pins... and then went for a shore lunch at Onion Bay.

Friday Jan 4

snowshoeing 1:30:00 [2]
Took bearings from the pins that marked the boundaries of the camp. A little tricky to find some of them... but he managed pretty well since it was getting dark and the pins were usually just an orange ribbon, or the bottom of a tin can painted orange.
strength 1:01 [5]
61 pushups
X-country skiing 30:00 [1]
Around the loop with my Mom, Ian and Molly in tow.
X-country skiing 16:00 [4]
A quick race pace ski around the loop before we drove back.

Thursday Jan 3

strength 1:00 [3]
Felt kinda crummy from working on summatives all day... so while i was thinking about that lying on the top bunk up at the cottage, i decided to just do 60 pushups right then and there!! i'm not sure if they helped me to fall asleep or not...

Wednesday Jan 2

running hills 30:00 [5]
Did my running training today while tobagganing!! Went down the hill... and then pulled up our neighbour on the sled. It's a kickass hill, so it was really tough getting up to the top... but the ride down was worth it!!
X-country skiing 2:30:00 [2]
Made a track through most of the trails, which was quite a daunting job since there was about a foot of powdery snow to plow through. But after that was all done, it was much faster and we had a little friendly race between my bro, dad, and sis. Did it in chase format which was lots of fun and reminded me of the race at ofsaa last year. Then, my sis and I went around the loop backwards (which wasn't as good as going the original way) and partway back again before heading in because we had turned into ice cubes.

Tuesday Jan 1

running 27:00 [2]
Really spooky running around at night during a snow storm in the middle of nowhere all by myself.
snowshoeing 50:00 [1]
Tramping around through the bush.
Note
Went for the first swim of the year in the lake... and it was pretty chilly!!! the snow was falling and i'm standing there in my bathing suit... atleast the lake wasn't quite frozen.
