strength 15:00 [5]
lazy sort of day, but tough 15min!! my arms are like jello!!! :S

Friday May 30

cycling 45:00 [2]
Biking to and from the ultimate tourni. mostly on the bike path which was nice and then a little bit on smyth which was... interesting... a crappy road, with lots of trucks and cars zooming past.
running warm up/down 10:00 [1]
a little bit of warmup before the two races.
running race (steeplechase) 5:38 [5]1.5 km (3:45 / km) vdot: 47.6
An exciting race for sure, and even a new pr!!!! everybody started out super duper fast and so a few girls died after the second lap but i was feeling surprisingly good and was even able to push it a little harder than usual on the last lap!! 2 places away from qualifying (top 4 move on) but still happy with my race. next year my goal is to get my time down to at least below 5:30 and hopefully closer to 5:20. i know i can run that fast, it's just fine-tuning the hurdling and water jumping!! :P
running race 5:07 [5]1.5 km (3:25 / km) vdot: 53.1
yet another pr!!! woohoo!!! what a great day!!! wasn't sure how well i was gonna do after running around all day playing ultimate. couldn't keep up with the lead pack, but i wasn't too far behind them either. ran practically a whole lap by myself before i caught a few girls falling back from the pack. on the very last lap, there was this one girl who was only bout 10m ahead of me. it would've been so easy to just fall in behind her and not try to pass her... but i thought 'alright, well i'm not gonna win this race, so i might as well pass this girl instead.' so the last 200m i turned on the jets, or emptied the tank, and gave it that last little kick and passed her!!! woohoo!!!! it was pretty exciting, though the girl wasn't very happy cause when i passed her she swore... hehe oopsy daisy!!! and what's even greater is that because i passed her, i came 8th and got a ribbon!!! yay!!!!!
ultimate 1:20:00 [3]
After steeplechase, raced over to Hillcrest and got there in time to play 3 out of the 4 games. tons of fun though tiring since we only had 4 girls and it was bloody hot! oh and we even won 2 of our games which is a huge improvement from our first tourniment where we only won... none... :P

Thursday May 29

cycling 15:00 [3]

Wednesday May 28

cycling 30:00 [4]
peddling as fast as my legs can peddle to tutoring, and then to pinney forest for junior o-training!
orienteering intervals 40:00 [3]
super duper fun and intense training for the juniors!! had 4 different maps and all of the controls were in the same vicinity. always had to be reading the map and running fast cause we had a little friendly competition going on! :P
C • SO LUCKY!!!!! 4
ultimate 10:00 [1]

Tuesday May 27

orienteering race 43:00 [4]
definitely could've chosen a better route choice for the first score-o of the year, and had a lot of trouble finding the really small controls.

Monday May 26

orienteering race 1:17:18 [4]*** 8.4 km (9:12 / km) +365m 7:34 / km
18c
Finally a relatively clean race. bobbled 3 and 17 a little bit, but everything else was just fantabulous! tough and slow running with the hills but gorgeous terrain all the same.
C • Congrats! 2

Red Y Long - Splits

Sunday May 25

orienteering race 42:32 [5]*** 4 km (10:38 / km) +160m 8:52 / km
15c
Still, not my race. Almost spiked control 1... almost. I don't even know what i was thinking, but i turned around before i got to the control and spent bout 5min running around trying to figure out where i was... bummer. 3 didn't work out so well either, and then 8 was close to a disaster, but thank goodness for stone walls. i found that i just couldn't run in a straight line, so i'm blaming my compass. :P got through the rest of the course without any other problems although i did play it a little safer even though i didn't really have to.

RedY Middle - Splits

Saturday May 24

Event: US Team Trials

orienteering race 24:52 [5]*** 3.1 km (8:01 / km) +58m 7:20 / km
8c
Not a great race, but still tons of fun!!! though i did lose the bet that andrew couldn't beat me... shucks!
super duper fast and it was fatal if you didn't thumb along or even worse, lost contact with the map. Lost a total of 2min on 9 and 10 but i'm so proud of myself; i had no idea where i ended up going to 10, and so just like we practiced on wednesday, i stopped, figured out where i had gone, figured out where i was, and then went and got the control!! yay!!! couldn't saved some more time if i had bothered to read all of the walls and such.

Red Sprint - Splits

running warm up/down 20:00 [1]
warm ups for both of my races.
running race 5:49 [5]1.5 km (3:53 / km) vdot: 46.0
a pretty good race. legs felt tired but i didn't kill myself at all. gotta work on the water pits and not doing a two foot landing. should be intense next week!!!!
running race 5:17 [5]1.5 km (3:31 / km) vdot: 51.2
felt like an amazing race, but wasn't even as fast as last week. i was feeling good on the last lap, but i couldn't keep up with the 3 lead girls who were just booking it and got in under 5min!!! holy macaroni!!!
cycling 46:00 [2]
biking here and there in the rain... woohoo!

Wednesday May 21

orienteering 1:30:00 [3]
relocation training up at pink lake. those woods still trick me every single time!!! had to lead the two other people to some point in the woods, and then they had to figure out where they were on the map. lots of fun for sure!!!
ultimate 45:00 [2]
4 games, won one!!! yay!!!! probably played for longer, but i wasn't running too hard.

Tuesday May 20

running 20:00 [1]
warmup cooldown and some lovely A's B's and C's
running intervals 32:00 [4]
ran 100 easy, 300 hard, 200 easy, 400 hard. sounded alright, but doing it 6 times over was super duper hard!!!! my goodness, so many times around the track!!
C • Intervals 2

Sunday May 18

orienteering race 1:31:00 [4]8 km (11:22 / km)
Had a real sloppy run for the long... not so happy with it.
Got to 1 alright, taking it kinda slow just to get into the map (though i didn't get into it very far, cause i didn't bother checking what the scale was until i had finished the course). 2 was a bit of a disaster... got into the vicinity of the circle just fine, but then i just couldn't find the control!!! it was so frustrating and it happened on almost every single control on the course!! 3 was just terrible... it was only bout 100m, but i came out of 2 wrong, and overan it and then... yeh... not so smooth. 4 actually went alright, lots of climb, but i absolutely spiked the control which helped with the confidence after the last two controls. 5 had me freaking out when i got to the other side of the stream and i wasn't where i thought i was. just managed to see the spur through all of the leaves, and then, crossing my fingers, i ran to where i was hoping the control was... and hallelujah!!!!! 6 actually worked out alright, but then 7 wasn't pretty bad. i wasn't totally lost... i was just in one of two places... really tricky to orienteer like that. finally did figure it out, and struck out for 8 which just ended in my standing in a fallen down tree 4 feet above the ground trying to find the control... yeh, i was getting pretty desperate. route to 9 was pretty brutal... i just wanted to get to the trail as fast as possible, so i went straight through the huge marsh at the edge of the map. pretty sure i went right off the map, and 'stump jumping' was not fun at all. thankfully, got through the last controls without screwing up at all, i was just completely exhausted!!

Saturday May 17

Event: National Capital Orienteering Festival

orienteering race 38:14 [4]4 km (9:34 / km)
Fun course on the new map up at Sedburgh. A little bobble on 4, and then a huge one on 5. it should've been really easy... but i just couldn't find the smaller trail and i was wandering all over the place and it was just a total disaster. thankfully i nailed pretty much all of the controls from there on, with a bobble on 10 which cost me about a minute.
orienteering race 15:14 [3]2.3 km (6:37 / km)
This was actually such a good race!!! I think that i can categorize it as a perfect race even!!! A little confused finding the first control, though all i had to do was turn around and there it was, but the rest of the controls, i just spiked!! It was epic!! I was reading ahead, and flowing really well... huffing and puffing up the hill, but still having fun for most of it despite the rain and cold!!
C • Sprint 2

Wednesday May 14

ultimate 20:00 [1]
Only had 3 girls per team for practice, so we had to stay on for two points, and then go off for one... lots of fun though!!!!!
orienteering 1:40:00 [2]
line-o back up at pink lake... and it wasn't raining this time!!! woohoo!!!
really tricky, but super duper nice woods for most of the map. got totally utterly completely lost at one point and didn't figure out where i was... for a while. i'd be sure that i was in one spot, and then 30sec later, i'd realize that i was actually somewhere completely different... not so great relocation skills...
still fun to be out though... just wish there weren't so many bugs!!

Tuesday May 13

cycling 25:00 [1]
mosying along home after my race... definitely was not in a hurry to get back to school!!
running race 5:14 [3]1.5 km (3:29 / km) vdot: 51.7
almost another PR, missed it by 3 sec.
had a really great race, keeping up to my two biggest all time rivals right up until the end where they pulled away a few meters. might've had a faster time but i got really confused at the end cause they hadn't flipped the number of laps left by the time i got out onto the straightaway... and so when i saw the 1 still left on the board, and i couldn't remember if i had heard the bell the last time or not... and didn't really start sprinting hard until bout 10m from the finish.
running warm up/down 15:00 [1]
really great warmup before the race
running 1:00:00 [3]
was late coming home from tutoring and so i had to sprint down to where we were all meeting... and then we did our warmup with felt pretty fast... and then the workout was running up this hill fast and then jogging back down was supposed to be the rest. it started out alright... started out with a slight incline, then the actual hill but then, once we got to the top, we had to keep running for what seemed like forever down to Flower St. and then the 'rest' interval... didn't seem very resting. did that 6.5 times and it was really tough, cause we never actually stopped running at all. was so glad to finally finish them all... but then we had to run all the way back and my legs were just like lead weights!!

Monday May 12

cycling 3:20:00 [2]
Set up a little score-o for the venturers... which meant biking down to vincent massey, biking around the park to put out all the controls... which weren't really controls... it would've been too easy, so i used pieces of duct tape with a letter on it. then i biked around for the whole hr they were o-ing to help them when they needed... and then since duct tape is not biodegradable and i would've felt bad just leaving it there so i went and picked up all the controls and then biked home... holy macaroni!!!
running race 5:47 [5]1.5 km (3:51 / km) vdot: 46.3
a new PR!!!!! WOOHOO!!!!!! by 2 seconds, i beat my time from EOSSA last year!!!! hooray!!!! and i didn't kill myself on any of the barriers... or fall in the waterpit!!!! took the lead right at the beginning, and then just cruised through the rest of the race cause nobody was threatening me... it was just me 150m ahead of everybody else... alright!!!
running warm up/down 15:00 [1]
before the race

Sunday May 11

Event: Stars Spring WRE

running 10:00 [1]
running to the start
orienteering race 36:34 [4]5 km (7:19 / km)
Had a super duper great race!!! a bit tricky with all of the trails, but i just tried to ignore the ones that i didn't need and that worked alright. made a little bit of a mistake one 2, going a bit too far to the north and having to come back to the control. the contour interval of 1.5m was weird... cause the hills on the map looked massive, but then in real life... they weren't really very big at all! saw ian on the way to 9 which was quite a surprise since he was supposed to be going back to the finish. so stopped to help him get back to the finish with some sketchy directions like 'ok go back to the main trail... turn left... then right... " so i was a bit worried for the rest of the race that he wasn't going to be able to find his way back, but once i had finished, i saw him wayyyy far down the trail just mosying along back.
orienteering race 18:19 [4]
great race... except for the last control... i was in the right area, but i couldn't find the control, so then i ended up over running it and it just didn't work out at all!!!! nailed all the rest of the controls though and just didn't feel so fast going back through the field

Friday May 9

cycling 30:00 [1]
biking to and from woodroffe for the ultimate tourni
ultimate 1:40:00 [2]
Not exactly sure of the time but we played 5 games of 30min, and the girls go to play a lot since there were only 5 of us and 3 had to be on at once. Never actually won a game, but it we had tons of fun!!! the other teams were pretty intense... maybe even a little too intense...
we had one play that really messed them up called Delta Squadron! it was sick!!! the handler would yell it out and then everybody would just run around in circles pretending to be fighter spaceship thingymadooers. somebody was also supposed to run deep... but that didn't quite work when we tried it.
great day!! oh and i got a cool flashflight frisbee for getting the most points!!!!
C • Delta Squadron 2

Thursday May 8

orienteering 59:00 [4]
Welcome score-o meet at the sportsplex. had a really fantastic race and got all of the controls with 1min to spare. had a guy following me pretty much the whole entire time which was annoying, but it also made me run faster. bobbled a few controls, but nothing major.
running warm up/down 10:00 [1]
easy run around to warmup for both of the races... had a non-existant cooldown... woops
running race 5:50 [5]1.5 km (3:53 / km) vdot: 45.8
Wow... what an epic steeplechase failure... started out alright, until i got to the 2nd lap and i lead with the wrong foot for one of the barriers. i usualy lead with my right foot, but i ran out of space and ended up jumping with my left one... that left my right leg kinda confused and i ended up smashing my knee against the barrier, but thankfully only stumbling, and not falling over it. that was the barrier right before the water pit... i don't even know what happened there, but i ended up going for a very chilly swim. it was not so nice. of course, everybody stands right by the water pit cause it's the most exciting part of the whole track meet, and when i came up gasping and spluttering everybody was just like "oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooh!!!!!!"
well i'm glad i could entertain all of you!!!! geepers!!!
took the lead for part of the race cause the girl ahead died right after the 3rd lap. couldn't hold it tho cause i was totally numb and i was bleeding all over the place and completely exhausted. dropped to second, and then 2m from the finish line, a girl sprinted past me which sucked, but i'm just glad that i completed the race!!!
C • OH NO!!!! well i hope your ... 2
running race 5:20 [5]1.5 km (3:33 / km) vdot: 50.7
Drafted for a lot of this race behind the girl who was in 2nd, and then passed her 200m from the end. felt kinda bad about it, but it was still a fun race.
cycling 30:00 [2]
biking home from the meet. really strong wind the whole way which sucked.

Wednesday May 7

ultimate 25:00 [1]
had fun trying to cover a guy who was a good foot taller then me...
orienteering 1:15:00 [1]
up at pink lake on the 1:15 000 map... definitely very tricky!!! was hard to tell exactly where some of the controls were but still great training.

Tuesday May 6

cycling 45:00 [1]
Took it easy there and back and the bike i was using was really uncomfortable. decided to not risk my life and went down maitland to the bike path instead... and i think it was faster!! yay!!
running 40:00 [2]
warmup run and cooldown

2min rest between each interval
running intervals 20:00 [4]
5 x 4min hard
had another guy behind me the whole time we couldn't quite catch me, but kept pushing me the whole way. pretty tough, but fun!!

Monday May 5

cycling (mountain) 1:15:00 [2]
Started out at P3 and biked all the way out to some road along the bottom of Pink Lake Hill... then back to the sand pit for some intense biking!!! took a bit of a tumble going down this rather steep and gravely hill which wasn't so great... but with my amour... i am invincible!!! hooray!!!! at least... i like to think so... got a bit of trail rash, but it was worth it. got some air going off a few drops... great first ride of the year for sure!!!

Sunday May 4

High School Adventure Challenge
C • Race story? 8
canoeing 59:00 [4]
Almost a whole hour of leg numbing, knee grinding, arm exhuasting, hand freezing paddling... but we almost won that leg!!! the race started out with a spring down to the beach to grab a canoe and get out onto the water without tipping. with super-paddling-guy-paul in the stern we were out with the leader in no time. we had to go through a canal before coming out into a much larger bay with foot high breaker waves. it was exciting, excpet that i had to sit in a very very cold puddle in the middle/bottom of the canoe... not so much fun at all. cruised right on back to the beach with the current... surfing the waves... and we were leading until we got to the beach... that was just a disaster. stefan, who was in the front, jumped out, or at least tired to, but his legs were numb and he couldn't really stand up straight. so then i stumbling out of the boat and i couldn't feel my legs at all, and i looked down at my feet, and my ankles were totally rolled outwards and i couldn't get my feet to land flat on the ground and i was so scared and it looked like i had broken my ankles and my goodness i never wanna hafta see my feet do that again!!!!
so yeah... we had to run back up to the transition area on very wobbly legs and 2 teams passed us.... shucks!!!
C • Welcome Meet 3
cycling (mountain) 1:07:00 [4]
Hopped onto our bikes and headed off into the woods for the second leg of the race. the trails were super duper muddy, but that just made things more fun and grueling!! for one control point, we had to drop our bikes and run through this swamp that was up past my waist... that was a bit chilly for sure!! powered up the hills as best i could with all the slipping and sliding, and thankfully, no huge wipeouts on the downhills either!!
orienteering 2:26:00 [3]
the map... my goodness... it was more of a drawing, or one of those brochures you might pick off of the front desk intending to go for a little hike on the trails but then never get around to it... spent a whole 2 1/2 hrs out in the friggin woods with a friggin drawing trying to find controls that weren't even in the right spot!!!
can you tell that i hated it??
started out alright, getting the first 3 controls bang on, but then trying to find the sugar shack, we kinda ending up wayyyy wayyyyyyy wayyyyyyyyyy out by the highway and had to backtrack, and yeh, it was just a mess.
then we came to the advanced controls where we had to find a point on the trail, follow a specific bearing for a specific amount of meters and then the control should be there!! well... the control always seemed to be a lot farther than what they said it should be... and not quite on the same bearing so we spend quite a lot of time trying to find all 4 of the advanced ones, and only ended up getting 3. it was just horrific. there were trails that weren't on the 'map' and it wasn't to scale at all, so trying to attack from a different spot didn't work one little bit and oh my goodness... for once, i was ready and very willing to just give up!!! felt like a let my team down a little bit cause i was supposed to be the great orienteerer, and then we went and wandered around for a really long time... it sucked... but finishing the whole entire thing did feel great at the end!!!
C • Orienteering 2

Friday May 2

running warm up/down 23:00 [1]
Warmup and cooldown run plus the 4min of rest inbetween each interval.
running 15:00 [3]
3 x 5min hard around the track. managed to keep a steady 3 laps per interval.
orienteering 57:00 [3]
Did the permanent course backwards to change it up a bit. really made it much more exciting since the parts of the course where i usually just ran without reading the map too closely cause i just had to run out to a trail, i actually had to pay attention!! lots of fun!!! made a few mistakes but nothing big. dad saw a momma bear and her two cubs which is kinda disconcerting but still pretty cool!
C • Bears 1

Thursday May 1

running warm up/down 12:00 [1]
warmup run to the hill with the team
running hills 40:00 [3]
hill training up at carlington. did some crazy routes on the hill... hoogie had us go up across, down, diagonal... it was insane!! still fun to run with a bunch of people though!!
cycling 40:00 [2]
biking to puttman with my t-bone for a gig. wasn't too bad except that with it on my back, i can't really put my head up at all... a bit dangerous when trying to do a shoulder check... but i'm still alive so it's all good!
