Road Bike 1:45:30 [3] 35.0 mi (3:01 / mi) +1640ft 2:53 / mi

Ride out to West Hartford for K's soccer match. Averaged over 22 mph for the first 25 miles. Then the city traffic slowed me up. Fairly flat after the first six miles. Only one idiot who wanted to test his horn but he got an earful and the finger from me because he decided to beep just before an intersection with a traffic light. Only time I love red lights. Score one for me!

Road Bike 1:00:00 [3] 17.5 mi (3:26 / mi)

Standard Norwich loop. About as boring as it gets but at least it is a bit of training.

Trail run 1:05:00 [3] 7.5 mi (8:40 / mi) +656ft 8:00 / mi

Modified gasline loop. Felt really good running today except for a dry throat that has been bothering me since MI.

Felt really strong on any of the flats but had no strength for the 2 major hills.

Mtn Bike race 7:02:00 [3] 42.0 mi (10:03 / mi)

Night ride where the sleep monsters caught up to us all for awhile. No mistakes just a few slow miles along the way as we yo yoed.

Trek 5:21:00 [3] 10.0 mi (32:06 / mi)

O section . Nothing like an inverted map where what looked like an up feature was really a depression feature late in a race. We struggled for a few minutes before we sorted it out. We started the section in 8th knowing we could only move up to 5th. Came out in 5th.

Mtn Bike race 1:48:00 [4] 15.0 mi (7:12 / mi)

Hammers back was spasming so I carried his pack along our circuitous route choice.....

Paddle - canoe race 3:57:00 [4] 26.0 mi (9:07 / mi)

Downriver paddle to the finish. We flew through all the rapids and caught a branch which flipped us within sight of the lower lake. Gather up all the gear along the swim downriver. It took all 4 of us to flip out canoe back over. Now cold and wet and still facing the 7PM deadline we hammered out the next 2 hours to surf into the finsh line with 43 minutes to spare.

Trek 6:14:00 [3] 10.0 mi (37:24 / mi)

Trek continued. We also received a 30 minute penalty for not having the required launching distress flares. Totally my fault as I had left them in the throw bag. We served 15 minutes before they let us continue with the trek because it was downpouring and we were turning blue. We served the last 15 min at the next ta.

Note
slept:1.45

Slept at this TA.

Mtn Bike race 2:38:00 [3] 27.0 mi (5:51 / mi)

Felt really fresh after sleeping and we cranked this section out. Another headwind section.

Paddle - canoe race 6:01:00 [3] 26.0 mi (13:53 / mi)

Great paddle down another river once I woke up. As soon as I got into the boat I struggled to stay awake and more than once stared at the many wonderous things my imagination was conjuring up out of the water.

Trek 8:00:00 [3] 16.0 mi (30:00 / mi)

Loaded paddles, pfds and throw bags into the packs (why our support crew couldn't come and pick this stuff up is beyond me) for a 16 mile trek.

Trek 8:22:00 [3] 18.0 mi (27:53 / mi)

End of the trek. We have been carrying our pfds for the next section. Always fun to take extra weight for no good reason.

Other (Raft Paddle) 2:58:00 [3] 10.0 mi (17:48 / mi)

Paddled 4 person raft down the fastest water in MI. Caught up with cp0. I think they were trying to let one person nap along the way. After a fairly tame ride down the river we had to navigate some large windblow chop at the beginning of the lake. This was the most exciting part of this paddle.

Mtn Bike race 6:35:00 [4] 46.0 mi (8:35 / mi)

More two track, dirt and paved roads. Headwinds most of the way. I think our bike splits compared well with the others as we moved very efficiently.

Trek 6:05:00 [3] 9.0 mi (40:33 / mi)

Trek - O section
In hindsight we should have slept for an hour before we left on this trek. This section was the downfall of our race as we made mistakes from the start and we were too tired to stop and rest if that makes sense. Finally decided to bail leaving 5 points unpunched.

Paddle - canoe race 7:17:00 [4] 33.0 mi (13:15 / mi)

MIX Expedition race

We had a good position to start the race and pretty much lead for most of the paddle. There was a local team of canoe racers (carbon single blades)
that took advantage of us in the upstream sections and heavy headwinds. We were able to reel them in during any downwind or crosswind sections.
This section took us through a few lakes and the rivers( upstream of course) connecting them.

Mtn Bike race 3:36:00 [3] 27.0 mi (8:00 / mi)

MTB section on mostly roads/dirt roads. It also had a loop section of single track at the end. Great ride through the trails to pick up 8 controls along the route.

Trek race 6:07:00 [3] 15.0 mi (24:28 / mi)

Tough section for us as we made a few mistakes which seemed to cost us more time than it should have.
