7 PM

Running warm up/down 15:15 [3] 2.0 mi (7:37 / mi)

Wearside. Nervous.
8 PM

Running race 4:23 [5] 0.9 mi (4:52 / mi)

BMC Track Open, Chester-le-Street, E Race, 2nd, 4:23.6

10 years (Aug 06, Watford, 4.14 PB) since my last one, I guess you get out of the habit of doing these things.

Very enjoyable - pure racing.
Time was about what I expected, certainly can chip away towards that PB

Laps were 70/71/70 and a 52 - could have easily gone quicker first lap and need to work on that finish.

When's the next one?

Running warm up/down 8:10 [3] 1.1 mi (7:26 / mi)

Running warm up/down 7:45 [3] 1.0 mi (7:45 / mi)

Urban Orienteering race 22:39 [5] 3.5 mi (6:28 / mi) +30m 6:18 / mi

Yorkshire Sprint Champs Prologue - 5th, 22.39

Messed up #3 by going R-L-L instead of R-L-R like I should have.
Screwed up #6 by turning into rough open area with pylon in instead of the correct one the other side of the railway.
Lost 30s
I can't have been the only one as there was a trod into the area but it was horribly rough and I was thinking there can't be a control in here, but people have been here. Serves me right for a late start, some would say.
Lost 45s
Stopped at crossable wall on way to #11 as it seemed too high to be crossable, but it was.
Not quite running well enough either, or so it felt.
Result looks better than it was thanks to mistakes by others too.
12 PM

Running warm up/down 7:30 [3] 1.0 mi (7:30 / mi)

1 PM

Running warm up/down 12:00 [3] 1.5 mi (8:00 / mi)

Urban Orienteering race 17:59 [5] 2.4 mi (7:30 / mi) +20m 7:18 / mi

Yorkshire Sprint Champs Final - 4th, 17.59

This felt much better and it was good to get near the end of a sprint knowing I hadn't majorly cocked up anywhere. A couple of minor parallel diversions added distance but nothing major. Changed route to #15 having realised initial route would have meant more climb.

Shame I can't do British Champs.

Running race 17:12 [5] 3.1 mi (5:33 / mi) +40m 5:20 / mi

Sedgefield parkrun - 1st, 17.12

An unexpected gem, and a shame it took me until #222 to arrive here.
Two laps of a delightful country park with a mix of everything, and scattered follies lining the route. Mainly trail with some firmer sections.
Ran well, went through 1 lap in 8:41, so actually got quicker, which is pleasing considering 2nd lap felt a lot harder, and I was miles ahead so had to push myself. Quickest time on that course since August.
Very enjoyable.

4 parkruns remaining on the 'achievable from home the same morning by train' list.
4 remaining in the NW, 6 in the NE.
By the end of 2016 perhaps...

Running race 35:20 [5] 6.1 mi (5:48 / mi) +175m 5:19 / mi

Apperley Bridge Canter - 4th, 35.20

Not having done this since 2009, knew it didn't go down the canal last year but assumed this was cos of work to the towpath. With that complete was looking forward to a fast final 5k on the new surface.

No such luck.

Brutal course, gradual up followed by quick down, and then a long 800m grind up towards the A65, then another long downhill section, flattening out to the halfway point. Then a really steep narrow path, short flat followed by another hill, and then mainly donwhill to 5miles, the final mile being flat grass in the school.

Phil Tedd shot off, and I sat in behind 2/3/4 until the 800m hill up to the A65, where I found myself in 2nd just by maintaining the pace. Was probably the most clear in 2nd approaching the brutal steep section, but saw the angle Phil turned onto and eased off a touch.
Actually got up the hill alright, but onto the 300m flat before the next hill, struggled to get going again (see Nthn 12 stage) and was overtaken there, and again at the top of the next one, so in 4th. Worked to the finish, they pulled away, but a look back at 9k showed that 5th was miles back, so didn't exactly flog myself home, especially as feet were blistering from the downhills and new socks.

35.20 not a bad time really, 1st mile was v quick for uphill (5.45), though might not have been 10k, most people got 6mi, I got 5.8 for some reason, but was all under tree cover so not going to be that accurate

Running warm up/down 8:50 [2] 0.9 mi (9:49 / mi)

Barefoot on the cricket pitch

Felt ill when I got home, something not quite right.

Running 12:00 [3] 1.7 mi (7:04 / mi) +30m 6:41 / mi

Down the Nidd and to the start. Low battery on phone meant used phone for this and strava now tells me where the segements are so afraid I was a bit of a SW up the hill from the river
6 PM

Urban Orienteering 26:35 [4] 4.1 mi (6:29 / mi) +20m 6:23 / mi

CLARO Knaresborough North

Good run out, a few 50/50 route choices, not sure I got them all right.
A bit of a bad angle to the last control. Enjoyable.
7 PM

Running warm up/down 13:30 [3] 1.8 mi (7:30 / mi)

Tested a few of the choices

Running 37:00 [3] 5.1 mi (7:15 / mi) +50m 7:02 / mi

Was going to theatre in Wakey so got off train in Normanton and ran there via Goose Hill Jn (RIP), Kirkburton and Heath, a lovely route.
No idea how I ended up so fast, was taking it very easy, very strange.
