Walking 47:17 [3] 3.55 km (13:19 / km)

Around the Bannockburn Sluices near Cromwell. Interesting gold-mining area, would make a good O map.

Afterwards tried to get in for lunch at a local winery (Carrick) but a snooty woman said they were booked out, despite it already being 1.30 and several empty tables. We went down the road to Akarua, no food but excellent wines including a brilliant pinot. Made do for lunch with a couple of pears that we had bought at a roadise stall a few days ago.

MTB cycling 1:51:29 [3] 32.5 km (3:26 / km)
shoes: Hired/borrowed clunker

Omakau to Poolburn Viaduct on the Otago Central Rail Trail. Better bikes today, hired from Shebikeshebikes in Omakau, Specialised MTBs with big tyres, discs, etc. - wish we'd had them yesterday, would have been great on the River trail.

Nice country to ride through, especially once we crossed the Manuherikia river and entered the Poolburn Gorge. Two long tunnels with bends, so you couldn't see the other entrance and had to walk through, and at the other end a century old viaduct across the gorge. We rode on 2-3km further, nice views of the Ida Valley.

Stopped both ways at the cafe at Lauder, nice cakes, excellent coffee and interesting sculptures.

MTB cycling 2:15:00 [3] 30.0 km (4:30 / km)
shoes: Hired/borrowed clunker

Ride into Alexandra, along the Clutha River trail to Clyde, then back along Springvale Rd to accommodation (Blue Dog Estate). Bikes belong to accommodation, heavy hybrids set up for long distance touring, not fast but ok on the dirt. Trail was really nice, close to the river bank most of the 12km between Alex and Clyde. And it's some river, wide, deep with a fast current, water very clear.

Orienteering race 19:55 [4] 1.4 km (14:14 / km)
shoes: X-Talon 190

NavDash Short course at John Curtin College, Freo. Got caught by the levels early, but should have looked more closely at the map to see where the centre of the circle was at 2, and maybe wouldn't have taken the stairs route. Lost about 1 minute there, then another 30 secs taking the wrong route choice to 6, but the biggest loss was 2 mins 30 at 12, again not really looking at the map and finding a route.

Good course, executed some of it well but need to concentrate harder. Garmin says I did 2.2kms.

Orienteering race 22:56 [4] 2.2 km (10:25 / km)
shoes: X-Talon 190

Long course at John Curtin, handled the levels better but probably because I'd already been through some of them. Forgot to start the Garmin so no route to show. Might have missed a better route from 8-9, but otherwise a good run.
