Orienteering race 18:34 [4] 1.7 km (10:55 / km)
ahr:145 max:189 shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 230

State sprint champs at ECU Joondalup, gps 2.19kms. Took a while to find the start triangle and control 1 after picking up the map, so a bit slow to 1. No mistakes, but HR tells the story, in strife after the climb up to 3, and walked a lot from there. Managed to complete the course without stopping and take M70, but a bit behind the M65s and a long way behind Anthea and juniors.

Orienteering race 1:29:02 [4] 4.6 km (19:21 / km)
shoes: X-Talon 190

H3 course at Frazzle Rock, gps 6.75kms. Not great, my head probably in the wrong place. Dropped too low from the start, ending up on the wrong side of a hill which I confused with the larger one where the control was. Realised quickly, and from where I was found an easy approach to the control, so not too much damage done - 2 mins maybe. Took it slowly to 2, wanting to be safe, dropped half a minute on speed. To 3 I saw what looked to be an easy route, staying high in the open and rock surfaces, then dropping to cross a creek, then cross a low spur and follow another gully down to the control, avoiding a bunch of green. I did the first part right, but in the first watercourse I misread the map, thinking I'd dropped too early and was at the next creek junction down, 300m NW from where I really was. So with that in mind I headed SE, and when the map no longer made sense I couldn't relocate for several minutes. Should have realised where I was much sooner, but my mind was in a fog. 17 mins for the leg, fastest took under 5.

After this, I started to have engine problems, and was slow up to 4, then had to stop to breathe again on almost every leg, but did manage to navigate better.
