Road cycling 3:05:00 [3] 70.8 km (2:37 / km)
shoes: Bike: Beemer Auto

Two rivers ride, felt a bit sluggish.

City of Canning have closed the path along Centenary Ave. Coming from Clontarf on Egretta Rd, there's no warning, and no sign of an alternate route. At that junction, there's a barrier across the middle of Centenary Ave, so you can't cross and ride on the road (well maybe a mountain bike could bunny hop the barrier) even if the constant traffic allowed. I had to go North on the footpath for 150m until traffic stopped at Manning Rd lights allowed me to cross. Then had numerous speeding cars and trucks whiz past (some too close) until the lights at the Leach Highway ramp allowed me to cross back to the path where the roadworks ended. There was a traffic controller there directing cyclists and walkers to look at a tiny map on a light pole showing the alternate (and very inidrect) route going north. I politely enquired why there was no-one and no map at the other end of the road works to direct people coming FROM the north, and was told that they were at Manning Rd - which is 200m past the roadworks!

There's no notice of this disruption - which looks like it may go for several weeks - on either the Westcycle or Main Roads infrastructure update web pages, and the City of Canning website has a page on the roadworks which doesn't mention the bike/pedestrian detour. Saw D & W again near Riverton Bridge, and they'd also nearly got killed on Centenary Ave thanks to the path closure.

Around the river, including Mt Henry. Stopped for a 20-min chat with Mike H at S Cottesloe. Pretty warm by then, although the Dr had started.
