Orienteering race 42:41 [4] 5.9 km (7:14 / km)
ahr:130 max:163 shoes: Inov8 Parkclaw 275

MetrO race at Perry Lakes. Like tRicky, I was preparing to go east and got a bit of a shock on turning over the map. Didn't want to tackle hills straight off, so headed north to 3. As I used to run these hills every week, I always went via where 1 was in order to gradually approach the steep bits, so don't know why I didn't do that today.

On the way to 3, thought I might avoid the long climb up the road through 16 by going to 19, then 20, but couldn't find a good route to finish from there, so took the long walk up the road. I think I picked a reasoanble route from there, but it was still much longer (and more climbing) than if I had gone to 1 first and stayed in the SW.

No breathing problems, but then I did do a lot of walking. Overshot 13, even though I was looking carefully, it seemed to blend into the ground. Should have been looking at the contours - it was close to the head of a gully, though maybe a few metres out.

Around the river to meet Noel at EF, then from Swanbourne with PP to Scarborough and the bicycle boulevard.

Road cycling 1:30:00 [3] 34.3 km (2:37 / km)
shoes: Bike: Beemer Auto

Bassendean ride. New detour at Bayswater station, probably will be there for quite a while for work on the new Ellenbrook and Forrestfield lines. Stay on Whatley Crescent, although you wouldn't know that because there's no sign until you get 400m along the station path telling you to go back the way you came. Watch out for the pedestrian crossing of Coode St, hidden by the subway, and it only works if you press the button - which is located in an awkward spot.

My usual cafe (Willing) only serving paper cups, so went somewhere else for coffee.

Road cycling 2:09:00 [3] 49.8 km (2:35 / km)

Around the river. Came upon a crashed motor bike on Tideman Rd, ambulance and police there, looked serious.

Also stopped for a chat with MH at Cottesloe.
