Orienteering race 1:39:03 [4] 4.7 km (21:04 / km)
ahr:130 max:173 shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 230

H3 race at Mt Billy, gps 7.11kms - tells the story really.

Off in the wrong direction completely after I didn't look too closely at the busy detail inside the start triangle and spent the whole leg not knowing the watercourse on my left should have been left way behind on my right. Lots of parallel features that I either misread or couldn't match to the terrain. 20 mins lost, but then I was fastest on the next leg by a minute. 3 was surrounded by head-high thicket with fallen timber and lost 3 mins. The first part of the leg to 4 was similarly thick, another 2 mins. Didn't see the m/cycle track route to 5, 1min30 lost. 6 was another double figure disaster, 14 mins down; went too low and wide and then couldn't match the map to reality. That was immediately followed by 5 mins at 7 where I didn't see that there was a track to cross before the control. After that I trotted slowly through the rest of the course.
