Running (fells) 5:00:00 [3] 18.0 mi (16:40 / mi)

So, we turned up at the event to find torrential rain and strong winds and found out it was cancelled. I thought I should still do something to justify my sponsorship so after a bacon sandwich, I set off to run Scafell Pike. 5 hours later, having run/walked 18 miles, I made it back. It was pretty intense up there with rain all day long and 70 mph gusts on the top and some big rivers which I had to wade through. Exhausted by the time I finished but job done.

So that's my sponsorship challenge done and I can ease up on the running now. I'm fitter than I've been in years which is a nice feeling and it's been fun. Now it's time to get fit for skiing and snowboarding before I go to France.

Running (fast, paths) 2:55:00 [3] 20.0 mi (8:45 / mi)

Nine Edges Trail Race. 2 hours 53 mins.

I really enjoyed today. I set off on the front row with Pete and we chuckled to each other as we realised we were leading and should probably slow down. I'd promised Pete that I'd run with him for the first 7 miles so we kept a steady pace and I just enjoyed the views for the first hour. It has to be the one of the most scenic races in England. Run it if you get the chance. It's a fantastic race.

So I said goodbye to Pete at 7 miles and just put the hammer down straight away. As I'd been running slow for the first hour it meant that I was then overtaking for the rest of the race, just picking people off one by one. I loved the section through Burbage and Longshaw and I was flying at that point. I wondered if I was going too fast but I sensed I'd be fine and I was. I started to feel tired around 2 hours and 20 mins but just kept pushing and found a bit extra.

Great race and a really enjoyable day out.

Note

Today was the day I should have flown to Canada. Mixed feelings. So much has happened since June and I have so much to be thankful for, but I was still conscious today of what day it is. A bit sad about it but mostly just a bit reflective which is understandable.

But the day passed and tomorrow is an exciting day. 20 miles in the Peaks. Then it's 16 miles in the Lakes on Sunday. :)

I raised over 800 pounds for Mind which I'm really happy about and proud of.

Time to enjoy the races now and hopefully get round in one piece! :)

Note

Made my 3rd chalet meal. Nailed this one. My lyonnaise salad was amazing and so was my vanilla cheesecake, if I may say so myself.
