Wednesday Apr 30

biking 1:15:00 [2]
to meeting in clayton via forest park. slept 10 hours, and legs and lungs continued to sleep for most of the ride. not sure why.
Note
another trip to hardware store. this time i just lashed the sack of sand to the bike rack w/ an old inner tube.
biking 22:00 [3]
Rode to office depot to get office supplies. 40# of paper. Felt good - go figure.

Tuesday Apr 29

yoga 30:00 [1]
'not counting all the time', from waking to feeling like a stretch here and there and another snuggle under the covers, to a few more organized stretches to a diggety dog and flying marsupial still under the covers, to grapefruit and tea, salutes to the sun, abs, pilates, laybacks on the door molding, etc. etc.
C • ha! 6
biking 1:00:00 [3]
to meeting and then to store. on cross bike, saddlebags.
Note
Planting spinach in containers, got 50# sack of sand from hardware store. Now how am I gonna get that home? Poured half in 1 saddlebag and put the rest of the bag in the other... Too short of a distance to log.

Sunday Apr 27

biking 3:45:00 [3]
started at manchester and reis, rode down reis to castlewood, kiefer creek, st. paul all the way down to the tracks by the river so i could savor the nice hill back up, then ridge (very pleasant rural appearing rolling low traffic street) to old state, pierside, old manchester, woods, melrose to greensfelder.

then my hands started freezing and the road was getting slick, ('oh, oh, what the...i can see my breath') so i passed on greensfelder time trial loop and hill down to 44, and reversed it back to fathers house in kirkwood, where i thawed out my toes and fingers...and then one final burst home.

Saturday Apr 26

yoga 30:00 [1]
'weight' training 25:00 [2]
biking 20:00 [1]
library and shopping

Friday Apr 25

biking 2:30:00
to club ride at kirkwood park, then 7 hills ride, then back to fathers house, nursing home, home. wrapped tweaked quad and hamstring, ignored bruise, felt much better.
biking 55:00 [3]
to bus station, then took bus to crestwood for new eyeglasses, then back home on grants trail

Thursday Apr 24

yoga 25:00 [1]

Wednesday Apr 23

biking 1:00:00 [2]
recycling, buy plants for herb garden, groceries.
biking 50:00 [2]
to running store, and then up to science center to meet father, who didn't show up. oh oh.

bruise is a dull ache, just something i'll have to live with for quite some time, i'm afraid. soreness in legs much better, but revealing pulled quadricep in left leg....felt better after being on the bike awhile.
C • legs 5

Tuesday Apr 22

biking 35:00 [1]
errands and visit, i've heard it called 'noodling' (??)
Note
legs better but still hurt. bruise still prominent, aches.

Monday Apr 21

Note
still can't walk right.
C • Hang in there! 12
biking 35:00 [2]
nursing home. spinning low gears, feel left leg more pedaling and on stairs
walking 30:00 [1]
nursing home - therapeutic, feel the muscles coming back to life
biking 15:00 [1]
grocery store

Sunday Apr 20

Note
can't remember last time my legs were so trashed

Saturday Apr 19

running race 2:31:45 [5]
Single chubb 25k (9.7/min. mile) trail run re-routed to avoid flooded flats (meaning all the best of the rocky and relentless hill portions). Wrapped hip bruise w/ ace bandage, worked well. Most of leg pain was trashed outer sheath of thigh muscles from too drastic taper neccesitated by bruise. Definitely hobbling around now. If there are any new bone fibers in my muscle, i will work to dissolve them now - no running for a while.

First in 'Old Guys Who Could Not Run the 50k and Where the Fast Old Guys Did Not Show Up' Class.
biking 20:00 [1]
errands and social visits...could hardly turn the pedals, but a lot better than going up and down stairs

Friday Apr 18

Note
This has me a little worried:

"If a severely bruised muscle is used too early in the recovery process, bone tissue may be formed inside the muscle, leading to lasting stiffness and pain." What the...???!!!!
C • oh, yeah... 3
Note
walking at nursing home, and riding back very slowly

Thursday Apr 17

biking 25:00 [3]
errands
biking 50:00 [3]
up to dogtown to drop off drawings, then to schlaflys to have lunch, then home.
running 30:00
very slow at first, bruised hip is full of liquid that bounced up and down painfully, went back home and wrapped it, then decent little tempo run. still sore wrapped, but runnable.

Wednesday Apr 16

yoga 30:00 [1]

Tuesday Apr 15

Note
Ouch. The bruise from sitting down my bike a WEEK ago is still hand size and hurting. Thought it would hav calmed down faster. Doesn't seem to interfere w/ running and biking but...maybe it would heal faster if it did.
yoga 30:00 [1]
biking 25:00 [2]
to library on cross bike
biking 10:00 [2]

Monday Apr 14

biking 30:00 [2]

Sunday Apr 13

biking 3:50:00 [3]
same route de suburbia as last week, to Melrose hills and back, in freezing rain most of the way - my buddy provided moral support. felt a LOT stronger than last week, but this time I didn't run the day before.

Friday Apr 11

running 1:00:00 [4]
back from nursing home, along river des peres, 3 -4 small hill repeats in wilmore park, thru cemeteries to repeat hill, 6-7 repeats, home thru rolling cemetary. Supposed to be a tempo run, was trying to push it, have no idea how fast i was actually going. Glad I decided to run today-breezy and sunny, a little on the warm side good training for upcoming.
yoga 15:00 [1]
getting up this morning and waiting for bus
walking 30:00 [1]
nursing home - didn't kill me this time thank goodness.
stretching 10:00 [1]

Wednesday Apr 9

biking 45:00 [3]
field visit in clayton, part metro, then stopped at whole foods and rode home w. heavy saddlebags 70# + makes rear end a little wobbly.
C • 70#?!?!? 5

Tuesday Apr 8

biking 1:00:00 [3]
to bike shop and back, dropped off some drawings on the way. rear wheel went out from under me on way back on bike path, recent rain, pine pollen, moderate curve, so it was not all the new race tire but maybe 20%.
bad bruise between glut and hip. hope this is not the begin of enforced taper.
running 1:00:00
not sure of time or distance - ran from bike shop into forest park, around to steinberg then up past muni, art museum, fp woods, then back to history museum and bike shop on delmar

Monday Apr 7

walking 50:00 [1]
to bus stop, nursing home, back from bus stop...in hope that walking was more suitable for a rest day.
yoga 15:00 [1]
waiting for bus

Sunday Apr 6

biking 5:00:00
road ride w/ friend sugar creek, carman, route north of big bend that Bill_l showed me, except we couldnt find a straight shot across 109 coming or going, rees into castlewood, kiefer creek, pier to old state to old manchester, woods/melrose. lots of hills, route backtracking for missed turns and subdivision anomalies that didn't show up on google map...

At end, i was absolutely demolished and crawling. Barely made it to my fathers house, had lunch and a little lie down and then home.

Saturday Apr 5

hiking 2:15:00 [1]
doing trail maintenance on Berryman. its scary how much fresher the air is out there. I could feel my breathing passages relax and open up, then constrict again when back in the city

Tuesday Apr 1

running 34:00
ran to track, chilly at first -system somewhat shut down, hence did not stretch enough i guess -re-aggravated hip tendon or whatever - will have to look up anatomy.
