warmup at track, 4600' elev., cool down on trail later that was basically a horizontal stone shelf that wrapped around the base of a cliff mesa for quite some distance.
Finally feel like some speed in my legs. Breathing for longer distance remains the problem, was having problems back in the Lou, and thats on top of the still incomplete altitude adjustment. 1200M interval pace repeats are big on my agenda.
Stand-in for running strength conditioning.
Up steep often hands and feet rock scramble to base of cathedral rock towers.
a guy had hiked his mountain bike to the top of the steepest scramble parts, didn't see if he made it down, but heard him mention this was where he crashed last time he tried it. maybe will be on u-tube.
very gently up 1 mile into a canyon to the base of towering rock in all directions - running has gotten in way of exploring the cool long canyon/mountain hikes around here
drove 10 miles to Anderson Mesa, flat, nice open grassland w scattered pine trees, solitude...perfect, except the trail was wet and stuck to the shoes like peanut butter in enormous globs. Tried a couple of pairs of shoes and gave up.
Then drove in opposite direction up on the mountain slope, arizona trail 30a I think. Very mellow, though had to navigate thru woods to find trail from forest camping road (note for future stays!). Rolling pine woods, not too many rocks, pine needles on much of trails - out and back, was cruising nicely on the return trip. 7600' elev.

unsatisfied went back to track, quick warmup w strides, then 1000m. time 3:52, not even 6 min pace. but not dismayed, this training could turn the corner at any moment. just hope it does so by next weekend.

county park near flagstaff, about 7000' elev. Some single track till that got lost in the snow, then straight back thru the open woods that were actually much easier to run than the trail, then some out and backs w surges on the flat flagstaff trail system
