Weather got nicer ... so took Friday off to work up my miles.

Streets were busy so I rode mostly on BGT and Sammamish Trail.

I was feeling tired after 60 miles ... but now, after a shower ... it feels great!

Road Bike hills (Seven Hills of Kirkland) 3:11:55 [4] 39.3 mi (4:53 / mi) +2721ft 4:35 / mi

Seven Hills of Kirkland Classic.

Ride (event) was really fun, despite rain. - Route is certainly the most challenging ride I've done to date. - I was able to climb the hills ok. I was doing cadence of about 70 to 75, which I found to work the most efficient for me going uphill. On the steepest portions I wished I had one more lower gear to shift to, to be able to keep same cadence.

Most of the uphills I would go at the same pace, or slightly behind one of the "groups". However on the downhills, I would typically go much slower than the same group I joined uphill.

Towards the end of the ride, I was feeling pretty tired (excited, but tired). - At the last busy splitting intersection, when I was trying to turn left, I was looking back (for longer than I usually do) to check for cars since it was a tricky intersection. I lost my balance on the bike, but was able to "save it", avoiding a fall. - Lesson learned: Go slow / stop on busy intersections, especially when turning left. - Let others go by...

Interesting to see how my "VAM" (vertical ascent in meter/hours) was somewhat constant for the first 3 hills (low-800's) then mid-700's next 2 hills, and dropped to low-500's for the last couple hills.

Road Bike (Hills in the Neighborhood) 1:42:22 [4] 16.1 mi (6:21 / mi) +1455ft 5:51 / mi

http://app.strava.com/activities/56487621

Went out to find some hills in the neighborhood, then came back home on the BG Trail. - Most elevation I have done to date. - I looked for slopes that were not as steep ( I could do on lowest gear without having to stand ). Was fun! - I can tell I got more of an exercise than riding for the same amount of time on flats.

Planning on doing 7 Hills of Kirkland tomorrow.
