Orienteering race for today was postponed. Very windy all day (gusts to 70mph), periodic cold rain in the valleys, snow and blizzrd conditions at higher elevations.

Event: Southwest Spring Week (SWSW) 2023
 

Green course at Catalina State Park. Only major actual mistake was overshooting number 2. After going way left to avoid an unreasonably steep descent, the contours just didn’t seem to be making sense. After overshooting, I picked up on a clump of boulders, started to turn back, and then everything made sense again. There were a couple other places on the course where I just said “this is too d—n steep” for me to climb or to safely descend and I “lost” time by going way around.

Air-enabled controls (beacon mode) would have sure been nice for a couple of the SI boxes that were hanging from strings in thorny bushes.
