orienteering race 49:15 [4]*** 4.9 km (10:03 / km)
13c shoes: Jalas hi-top O' shoes
COO event at Great Seal State Park near Chillicothe. "Green" course, but most legs had road or trail handrails, so difficulty was generally easier. However, mapping problems (new trails, thicker vegetation, imperfect contours) made it tougher.
trail building / maintenance 2:00:00 [2]1.2 mi (1:40:01 / mi)
light maintenance on my section of Buckeye Trail in Scioto Trail State Forest near Chillicothe. 90 minutes with fire rake doing minor repairs to tread and minor removal of encroaching vegetation. 30 minutes with loppers doing light trimming of overhanging branches & briars.
walking 23:00 [1]1.2 mi (19:10 / mi)
Buckeye Trail, Scioto Trail S.F.

walking 1:30:00 [2]**
checking locations of controls on new permanent course at Hueston Woods State Park (lodge area). I'm calling this walking rather than orienteering since most of these locations were pretty easy and I had already visited them before the posts were installed.
trail building / maintenance 1:30:00 [2]
moving two permanent course posts which had been incorrectly installed. One was off by about 30 meters, the other by about 90.

Friday Oct 26

trail building / maintenance 6:00:00 [2]6.0 mi (1:00:00 / mi)
Buckeye Trail work project clearing existing trail in Pike Lake State Forest and Pike Lake State Park. Mostly chainsaw. Crew of 4 with 2 chainsaws, loppers & a paint kit through-hiked 6 mile section clearing fallen trees & freshening blazes.

Thursday Oct 25

trail building / maintenance 30:00 [3]*
moving permanent course post which had been incorrectly installed by boy scouts. Assisted by Tyler Hertel. Posts were 2 feet deep (approx .6 m) and set in concrete with a rebar cross piece, so we had to dig big holes both for removal and re-installation.

Wednesday Oct 24

orienteering 27:28 [2]*** 2 km (13:44 / km)
4c weight:159lbs shoes: Jalas hi-top O' shoes
checking 4 new permanent course controls at Hueston Woods. Mostly about level 3 effort, but includes about 4:40 of walking to confirm placements (one post was installed incorrectly and will need to be moved or the map adjusted). drizzly, overcast day. rain had stopped but vegetation was wet and sky heavily overcast. I forgot to take my compass. Spiked 3 controls, but made a pretty major error on the 3rd of the 4.
orienteering 8:20 [4]*** 0.9 km (9:16 / km)
2c shoes: Jalas hi-top O' shoes
checked 2 more controls on permanent course.
