orienteering 2:10:00 [3] **
11c weight:164lbs shoes: Brooks Accel

Nursery O' 6 hour mini-rogaine, New Carlisle, Ohio. Bitter cold and northwest winds overwhelmed my gloves and I quit the course early. 10 controls in 1:26:46 had me on a 4.5 hour pace to clear the course, but as I turned back into the wind it became quickly apparent that my gloves were not up to the task. After taking shelter behind a storage shed and warming my fingers for a few minutes, I got one last control at 1:43:15 then headed for the finish. Made it about a kilometer and had to take shelter ina barn for another 5 or 10 minutes to get my fingers thawed out again, then made the final 3 kilometer or so dash back to the finish, ending with an official tiem of 2:29:28, and 560 points, amazingly good enough for 3rd place in the 50 and under age group.

orienteering race 1:06:02 [4] *** 5.8 km (11:23 / km) +235m 9:28 / km
24c weight:164lbs shoes: Jalas hi-top O' shoes

Harbin Park - green course. 3rd place over DanOLOU by just 7 seconds. I lost 1:48 going back across a deep ravine to recover a hat that I dropped, which would have moved me up to second place, just in front of Stryder but still nowhere near course winner Dersu. A hilly workout on a cold day.

orienteering 2:00:00 [1] *** 4.0 mi (30:00 / mi)
19c shoes: Brooks Accel

Course planning at Miami Whitewater. Made some minor changes to map. Still have a few more controls to visit. Actual time in forest was closer to 3 hours.

trail running 26:39 [3] 2.7 mi (9:52 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Accel

Miami Univ Natural Areas, one circuit of Pine and East Loops. Temp about 43 F (6 C), but after being in the deep freeze for days, ground was mostly frozen and trails in the pine areas were snow and ice covered. Downhills were slippery. Broke a foot thru the ice at each crossing of Harker's Run. Probably would have been a little faster if I'd used icebugs or O' shoes.
