trail running 1:02:33 [3] 6.4 mi (9:46 / mi)
weight:162lbs shoes: Icebugs
Miami Natural Areas. It had rained a little bit earlier in the day, so I figured the trail would be wet and icebugs a good idea. That turned out to be a good idea. I did manage to trip on a root that stopped me dead and sent me in a full-length sprawl on the trail. Muddy plams and knees, but no real damage.
Just before I started into a final 2.5 mile loop, I thought I heard distant thunder, but decided it was probably a jet. Nothing more, so I started out on the loop. About 2 minutes before the halfway mark, I heard thunder again, closer this time, and no question what it was, but I figured there wasn't much point in turning around at that far into the loop. 4 minutes later, and not far past the halfway point, the forest lit up. Ker-aaaccck! Dang that was close. Well, nothing to do but keep running. A couple minutes later, the rain began, light at first but quickly becoming a drenching downpour that continued for the duration.
About the time I finally got back to the car, it began letting up. Oh well, good training. At least the rain had washed the mud off my palms and knees, so I only had to deal with wet car, not a muddy one!
