orienteering race 1:18:37 [4] *** 6.2 km (12:41 / km)
22c shoes: Jalas hi-top 2010

Red course set by flyingsquirrel at Big Bone Lick. Lots of climb and lots of mud. Tripped on a stick and did a full-body sprawl in a mud hole. Covered me, my map, my SI card, glases,, everything. I was a mess. Upon finishing, threatened the meet director with a hug so that she could share in the accumulated muck!

walking warm up/down 5:00 [1]

short warm-up walk and cool down (a littl slow jog) at OLOU meet (Ohio Valley Interscholastic Championships).

orienteering race 59:07 [4] *** 5.6 km (10:33 / km) +220m 8:49 / km
18c shoes: Jalas hi-top 2010

A pretty clean run at the Ohio Valley Interscholasticv Championships. A slight bobble of 30 to 45 seconds on one control. Felt a little slow, and the knee that started bothering me in Arizona a couple weeks ago gave a twinge as soon as I started running. Not debilitating, but I knew it was there, and favored it a bit here and there, probably costing a minute or so over the entirity of the course.

trail running 25:00 [2] * 2.5 km (10:00 / km)
weight:163lbs shoes: Jalas hi-top 2010

UCMS Orienteering training. Shadowed Nathan and Russ on a yellow course at Mounds SRA. Jamie also did yellow, but we never caught up to him, although I saw him up ahead once. Caleb and Dylan completed a brown course in about the same time, while Skyler and Jordan blazed through a white course. We did "A" meet style starts, and for the most part the kids did the courses on their own. Nathan caught up to Russ pretty quickly and for the most part they were pretty close together, but then Russ got ahead coming out of 8 on the long leg to 9.

Noah and Chloe Greene also showed up with their mom and did part of the yellow course (Luckily they quit before the dreaded control #8).

Some of this was crawling and fighting through the brush and thorns leaving the dreaded number 8. Nathan and Russ both found it ok (as did Caleb, Dylan, and Jamie). But vegetation has gotten very thick in this area, and this was way too tough for yellow. Nathan and Russ didn't choose to go back out the same way they came in, which in retrospect would have been much easier. (I used old courses from a TROL meet a couple years ago)
