O training at Hueston Woods. I had planned to do a "Team score O" but only 7 kids made it today (track, math academic team, play practice, track AND volleyball, didn't do chores last night, not feeling well, and who knows what else). Anyway, I improvised and sent HS to collect and bring in the 5 far controls, MS to bring in the 5 near ones. Mass start HS vs MS. Middle school returned first with 1 control, then two more. After that it was the high schooler's turn. Jamie brought in 3, then Nathan with 1. 4 to 4; Alex after the high schoolers toughest control and Priscilla after a middle range but difficult placement. Nate B rushed out to try to help Priscilla. The clock ticked.

Then we glimpsed Alex, half a klick away on the long, straight, flat trail, headed in. But then Nate popped out of the woods ahead of him. To roaring and screaming from their team-mates, both kicked into high gear.

But then, Nate stopped. He didn't have the control and he didn't have Priscilla. The high schoolers won by a point.

After that, a quick round of control hide and seek (like capture the flag, but with no defenders allowed), then a round of regular capture the flag.

Mintore's red course at Camp Ransburg. Lots of hills. Plentiful thorns in the southern part of the map, but not as bad as I feared.

Lost maybe 2.5 minutes total on 2 controls, but generally felt pretty good about the run. 5th behind Aidan, Tom S, Ben H and Wangki.
