orienteering race 2:57:30 [4] *** 16.0 km (11:06 / km)
30c shoes: Icebug 2016

3 hour score O. 31 of 36 controls, 1170 of 1230 possible points. Scared up a jackrabbit and a javelina, both in the first hour, after that the wildlife made itself scarce. Weather was nearly perfect, starting out in the low 40s (6 or 7 C) and climbing to around 60 (16 C), with the sun staying mostly hidden by clouds - unusual for the desert, but the overcast was definitely welcome.

Control pickup at Robbins Butte. Including all 5 of the controls I didn't get to while running the course, plus 4 "training" controls used for an Intro class, so only 4 that I had already seen while running.

road running 29:46 [3] 3.02 mi (9:51 / mi)
shoes: Starter white

Camino del Sol, miles 9:47, 9;57, 9:54. Following 3 long driving days, I was definitely in need of loosening up!

Just after a mile into the run, a javelina ran across the road in front of me. I thought that was pretty cool all by itself, (although I was also quite happy that he wasn't interested in contesting my presence), but then as I approached the end of the second mile, a coyote ran across, also only a short distance in front of me. He even paused at the far edge of the road to glance back at me before disappearing into the brush.
