The Great Dayton Adventure Race - urban trek in downtown Dayton. Easy navigation. Didn't like having to mark my own map on the clock from a description sheet which only had written descriptions including the street address, which you then had to plot on the map. Who knew that Dayton's north/south street numbering starts at zero from 3rd Street?!? So all my points on north/south streets were plotted about 3 blocks off - which sure did not help my efficiency. Add to that, in my frustration at trying to figure out where to plot N/S numbers, I skipped one, intending to come back to it at the end, in case later addresses gave me a better clue to the numbering and where to plot it ... And of course I forgot to plot it at all, resulting in several extra blocks running at the end of the race when I realized I had one question left with no answer. Missed finding Drake's Gym the first time around due to 111 East somehow being farther east than 130 East ?!?!?, but decided to make one more try and finally found it.
The physical challenges were fun and included a round with a punching bag at Drake's Gym, my first ever martial arts experience breaking a board at the Ohio Budokan martial arts center, threading a nut on and off a long bolt while wearing heavy rubber utility lineman's gloves at the DP&L stop, tossing buckeyes into a cup at the Buckeye computer store, and making several runs into the fountains at the Splash Pad to soak a sponge, then wringing it out into a cup until it was filled. All in all a lot of fun.
