Birdathon 2018:
with Wayne Wauligman and Jerry Lippert
6:00 am to 4:55 pm
Boone Cliffs, Oxbow wetlands, Lost Bridge & Shawnee Lookout, Miami Whitewater, Fernald

We found 121 species in 24 hours, and we were able to officially count 120*, ending in a tie for 4th place team.

Pledges per species or donations for wetlands preservation should be made through the Oxbow Inc website (or contact me).

(* 95% of species count must be seen or heard by all team members - we found 114 that we all saw or heard, 7 that were seen or heard by less than all 3 team members).

Winners had 147, 2nd place 146, 3rd place 122.

setting up controls at C O Harrison.

8 classes, we had about 25 minutes total with each class. 5 minutes of instruction and passing out SI cards; kids did an 8 control score-O course on the school grounds. 102 starts with a total of a few over 200 kids, mostly 5th graders, but a couple 4th grade and 1 3rd grade class.

5 pm - 11:30 pm:
VOA, Zoo wetlands, Spring Valley WMA

Nothing too interesting on the lake but we quickly found our VOA target species of bobolinks and savannah sparrows, and Birdathon was under way. No elusive Henslow's sparrows, either at VOA or anywhere else we went...
