6hr rogaine with Craney at shallow crossing near nellugen and batemans bay. Nice day although almost too warm. We planned a route with the best case scenario in mind but with a few options to cut. Craney was full of beans in the first part and I had to remind him several times that 6hrs was a long time to run for. The first few hours was pretty fun especially going along the rocky creek beds to avoid the thick forest.
I was pretty consistently 5m behind for the first few hours and had a real low patch at about 3.30 which possibly coincided with eating half a pack of rice crackers. Eventually started to come good at about 4.30 but by this time we were both getting cramps in the forest sections. This was also around the time when the forest was thickest and several tracks turned out to be non existent.
As a result we adjusted the route to stick mainly to big rds and this got us to the highest point on the course for an awesome view out over the budawangs. Cruised home on a big downhill fire trail at a good pace, about 4.30min/k to make it back comfortably in time and just crack the marathon distance, hopefully the slowest we'll ever do.
We were very evenly matched and it was great fun in a masochistic way, good cradle mtn training too. We won pretty comfortably and apparently beat the 12hr teams too.
