Kowalski 100k mtb race at kowen.

The first couple of hours were pretty frustrating after starting too far down and getting caught in a massive queue of people going way slower than i normally would, had to get off and walk several times with the bottlenecks. This was partly my fault choosing wave 3 (i planned to be at the front of this but then it got split alphabetically so i started at the back instead) and partly due to the lack of firetrail in the first 50k.

Anyway one i cleared the worst of the bottlenecks i got going ok and rode pretty hard for the rest of the first 50k which was 2.52. The second half was a lot steeper and tougher but did 2.48 for this 50k. Had one minor crash passing a guy round a hairpin. I thought i was nearly done when i confused a safety sign (#84) for a km marker just after 70k. It was good thinking i was nearly done but pretty demoralising when i got to the last aid point and they told me it was still 15k to go. Managed to knuckle down for the last 15km although was really hanging out for the finish at this stage.

Anyway pretty happy with how i kept going given the lack of riding and had a pretty decent time for the second loop. Had 10 gels and 5 big water bottles. Next race might be the Husky 100.

Running 1:15:00 [3]

Mix of short jogs to/from work plus a good hitout at lunch. Took on JPs challenge to get to black mtn and back in an hour and made it easily. 47.06 tempo effort. 45 would be something to aim for! We also came up with a lunchtime work three peaks of blackie, painter and aranda hill which should be good.

Got out for another lunchtime ride, lot smoother today but still rusty, should be going nicely by the end of 100k on sun.

Start of my kowalski classic training, quick spin on Bruce ridge at lunch. Race is on Sunday so this may be my only session and it was needed as I was very rusty.

Running 45:00 [3]

Evening run round lake g just before it got dark. Did the old classic 3x8min but luckily didn't have to race anyone so not as hard as the old days. Also had a leisurely warm down unlike the old days when Scotty used to run back to uni with us at 4m/km.
