Orienteering 1:00:00 [3]

Day 3 Primrose Valley
A bit more urgency today, bit scrappy into the first few controls but a good route to 2 and then got sight of the guys 2 and 4 min ahead at 4 and 5 which was an extra boost. A bit scrappy after that but still a good run and managed to sneak ahead of Theo by 1 sec overall to move up to 7th. Checked the splits and went from a sec behind to a second ahead in the finish chute.

Orienteering 1:50:00 [3]

Day 2 Primrose valley
Started ok but missed the 6th and had a bad patch after that with lots of small mistakes through the short tricky section, partly through trying to make a decision about the long leg. The payoff for this was that i did the long leg well and finished off pretty well after that even though i struggled on the hills all day. Ended up 8th which was ok, felt crap afterward, a good reminder of how tough classic races are.

Orienteering 1:00:00 [3]

Day1 Isaacs ridge
Started with a pretty conservative approach which was good to get into the map and flow of orienteering again. The easier start helped w this although I list a min on the tricky second one. Didn't have the speed or strength to make the most of the fast open sections and nervous/hesitant around the controls. Despite this had a pretty decent run and really enjoyed the long leg in the forest which had a very European feel to it.
Tied w Grant on time but he skipped a v short control that probably didn't save him much time.

Orienteering 30:00 [3]

Prologue at UC
Nice course with a mix of fast running and some tricky sections without being unfair. Pretty good run although was v cautious in the tricky sections and not fast enough :) in the fast sections. Just missed top ten which I think will be my aim for the weekend.

Note

Went out and met Paul a bit before honeysuckle creek. He'd done a huge day of 80k to finish the AAWT in just under 12 days. Walked the last 20k with him from 9pm to 1am. Was a bit tougher than I imagined - it looks like such a small distance when compared to what he had done even that day so it was easily underestimated. Great night to be out in the bush though with a big moon, had a beer at the end to celebrate his amazing effort.
