SHI Relay. Niamh and Ruth had good runs on the first 2 legs so I went out 40s behind Gina. We came together and her first control (which she kindly pointed out where we were) and we stayed together for the rest of the course. Nav wasn't particularly hard today although I made a small mistake coming out of 4 where I started to head up the hill until I noticed the lower crossing point and which point I dropped down the hill and met Gina again. By the time we got to 15 we made a pack not to try and out sprint one another on the way to the finish since we were both knackered which lead to a lovely dander up the run it. I had great fun, and actually ran much more than I would have done had I been out there alone. Thanks Gina!!

Running warm up/down 10:00 [2] 0.8 km (12:30 / km)

Warm up jog to the start plus a few drills

Orienteering race 1:57:05 [4] 12.3 km (9:31 / km) +360m 8:18 / km

SHI Individual. For once I was pretty happy with this run. As usual I was ridiculously hesitant into the first control, I couldn't work out if I was at the right height so faffed my way along when I was bang on. Lost about 2-3 mins on the leg. After that things were pretty good. Managed to get onto the back of a train for the long leg which pulled me along nicely (usually I get bored and wander off the line). Started to catch Eibhlin at this point and that kept me pushing on. I'm still not great at downhills in rough terrain so I kept losing and then gaining ground. Was pretty clean until 12 where I struggled with what was considered a crag and what was open rock, plus there were a few unmapped pits around - not particularly helpful when you are looking for a pit. Thanks to Conor for pointing me into it :) Lack of terrain strength really started to show as I was so tired coming into the last few controls that I made mistakes on 16,17 and 18 which was down to a complete lack of concentration.

Considering how that run went it looks like I might be attempting the JK long distance for the first time in a long time.....

Note
(rest day)

Went and had my legs worked out by Joanne, apparently my right calf is atrocious and my hamstrings are like bubble wrap. So there is much to work on.
