Note
(rest day)

So my dead leg yesterday may have done a little more damage than I initially thought. An almighty bruise on my thigh (nicely on the ITB) which made walking the dog uncomfortable so decided to take it easy today and attempt intervals tomorrow.

NICS 6 Castle Saunderson. Brown Course. I really enjoyed this despite the roughness of the forest. Started off well, navigating cleanly through the first 3 controls, but then made a massive mistake into 4, there were quite a few unmapped ditches and unfortunately my attack point was a set of 3 ditches. I hit what I thought were my ditches and headed up the hill to find myself in a whole load of extraction lanes rather than the patch of white I was looking for. Took a while for me to figure this out and when I eventually did I nearly hit 5 before I came back around to 4. Lost about 5 mins on the leg. Poor route choice from 5-6, I tried to go through the light green but got stuck in the white trying to get out to the path - would have been better just pegging it around the path. Gave myself a massively dead leg on the way to 13, came over a tree and stabbed myself in the thigh so hobbled for a bit but then it seemed to improve. Again got stuck in the light green going to 16 and should have gone round the path. Managed to make a 90 degree error coming out of 17 and ended up in a march with head height reeds, which took longer than it should to recognize I was heading to the lough and not the path. Again lost about 5 mins. The rest of the course went pretty well.

Both mistakes came from a lack of concentration, the first I should have been pacing as well as looking for my attackpoint whilst the second I definitely should have taken a bearing......

Strength and Conditioning (Tribal) 1:00:00 [2]

All the toys came out tonight. There is nothing quite like attempting to squat on a wobble board in the pissing rain. Plenty of leg and arm work tonight. Managed to slightly bruise a rib last night leaving the track (note to self the gates open outwards) so had to modify a few exercises, but other than that it was a good tough session.

Running warm up/down 6:14 [2] 1.08 km (5:46 / km)
shoes: Saucony Kinvara 4

Running intervals 27:00 [5] 6.93 km (3:54 / km)
shoes: Saucony Kinvara 4

4 mins down to 2 at 15s intervals with half recovery. This is such a painful session. Found the first couple of reps really hard when there was no one to shout out the lap times. First lap was 1.45 (oops) after that they were all between 93-98. So not the most consistent in the world. Generally got better once Eric then Susan took over with the lap times.

Running warm up/down 4:23 [2] 0.8 km (5:29 / km)
shoes: Saucony Kinvara 4
