Orienteering 5:30:00 [3] 6.3 mi (52:23 / mi)

Warm afternoon at Bradford Woods mapping and scouting/placing controls along with Rob and the millions and millions of mosquitos. It was great to be out at a slow enough pace to appreciate the spring wildflowers; Mayapple, Jack in the Pulpits, wild Geranium, Cardinal Flower...

run race 2:36:28 [3] 13.1 mi (11:57 / mi) +17m 11:54 / mi
shoes: NB 860v4

Indianapolis 500 Mini Marathon. Beautiful day with sunny skies and the temperature at the start at about 50oF. I used a 6min run/1 min walk interval and felt good until about 10 miles when things got harder and I shortened the run and lengthened the walk. First 3 miles had a 11:15 pace and then slower. The race was extremely well organized with over 33,000 racers starting in 5 waves so each wave felt like it was the official start. The atmosphere was very Indianapolis May-like with the characteristic presence of service members, a lap of the track (which wasn't particularly enjoyable except for seeing the iconic tower and yard of bricks) and audio of Indy cars at the start and finish. There were locals bands playing at every 1/2 mile and lots to see and distract you along the course including three fire fighters walking in full gear with oxygen masks and full tanks. Even just after fininshing, I said I would run it again and think I could at least break 2hr30min just by knowing that I can do it.
