Adventure Bike (Gravel/pavé/rail trail) 7:30:00 [3] 92.0 mi (12.3 mph)

I deducted the time we spent fixing Paul's bike.

A dedicated roadie from the Banded Goose Cycling Club recently got an all-roads bike, so joined us on a ride to western Kent county. We started with coffee from the new brewery in town (it was 8:30 am), then headed east. Rail trail to Leamington, then bike lanes and quiet roads the rest of the way. Paul's rear disc brake was rubbing on the brake pads, so we dealt with that at Merlin. It was the first time our new gravel buddy had been to Merlin, and he has lived down here forever. Merlin isn't exactly a destination, except when I'm orchestrating a long ride (the grocery store is a good place to grab a coke and a bag of chips).
The wind picked up, as usual, and was more from the south than the advertised east, so it was a slog heading home. I had made myself some squares with sushi rice, coconut oil and cream cheese. Very good today, enough calories without making my stomach feel icky. Sadly, I "lost" one in a forgotten pocket, and really would have appreciated it about an hour from home (but I could find my emergency Snickers bar, which did the trick). I'll try to make another batch before the Barry next weekend.

The rice rations might have been the trick. I often feel icky after a long, hard ride ( and I was riding hard enough that I had a couple cramps mention their presence), but I actually felt just fine at the end and enjoyed a glass of Kickaginger beer in celebration of getting Dr Chas out on the gravel.
