My first Adventure Run event. I am glad I had 45 minutes to do some planning! These controls have to be done in such-and-such order, these ones can't be accessed until a certain time, this section is Line-O, that one moves around.....
We had a mass start and headed west to the far end of thr golf course. I did the Chair Lift first (47, 50, 51), finding 54 en route, which was a good confidence booster (didn't punch it, of course). I have never ascended the Escarpment on foot before. As expected, it was humbling, to this flatlander. Then 58 Snow Squall (parts of the map were whited out). Back to the old car at 54. Then on to the moving target of 53B....a bunch of us were 7-10 minutes early, and as it turned out, I could've caught it at the other location in the later timeslot, but I figured I had better take advantage of 75 points while I could!
Then a Line-O. The only time I did a Line-O in an O meet, I sucked at it. So I was wondering if I should skip it at go directly to some higher valued controls further away, but persevered. I actually found the 3 Polar Express controls by doing the course in a counter clockwise fashion.... I thought I would go for 55 Scrooged, but after I got across King Road, I did a time check and decided to head back. Jogged along the Bruce Trail and backtracked a wee bit to get 49 Ice Crevasse. Originally, I thought I would go to 52 Glasier Melt from there, but some last minute updates on Out Of Bound areas scratched that idea. Jogged down to the golf course and got 45, which didn't register (bummer). Had enough time to do the Labyrinth, for 48.
5th open female with 580 points (would've been 600 if #45 had registered).
Another hour out there would've suited me just fine, energy-wise. I did most of the ascending early on.
A fun and challenging event. Too bad Hamilton is 3+ hours away from home....lots of trails to explore.

Patrick let me choose which controls to get, and I wanted to get 55 Scrooged and 57 Antarctica since I didn't get to that part of the course during the race. He told me which road to take and where to park, but mid-day traffic in Burlington is heavy, so I was wondering for a while if it would've been quicker to go by foot!
55 was a straight north bearing from the corner of the scrubby area, and there was indeed a faint trail in through the green afterall. And the navigation to 57 was straight forward, but I sure was glad it wasn't part of a Night-O! There was one place marked as in-bounds for descending the Escarpment, and it was an ankle-twister of a boulder field.
And then the sun finally started to come out! It was mild for December (6-9C).
Then since I was SO close to a MEC and a SAIL, I did some Christmas shopping. For family members. Really! OK, one little thing for me......
