Hockey 25:00 [3]

Lots of fast skating to keep up with the speed demons on the other team.

Note

Maybe the border was slow yesterday as Clinton, Trump and Obama were all coming for a visit today.

Mountain biking race (Mostly single track) 1:12:00 [3] 12.7 mi (10.6 mph)
ahr:149

Slow border crossing = get to Maybury at 11:15 for an 11:30 start. Oops.
So I short changed myself on the pre-race announcements, not quite getting the finer points of the legalities of hike-a-bike. I was still putting my seat bag on when Go! was declared. And realized shortly before I got on the single track that my helmet wasn't done up. Oops.
Oh, single track, how long has it been? I didn't realize how much I missed you until I started riding your twisty turny rocky rooty tracks today. Of course, the sunshine and super trail conditions helped add to the euphoria. I was not fast, but I sure was happy.
Maybe I could've done some hike-a-bike to shorten the route (guessing that others did so?), but it was so enjoyable I just kept riding. Ditto for jumping out to the road and road riding between controls....I didn't think that was allowed, but I think some others did (which saved a lot of time). I thought I had heard something like "follow the trail" until #7, but I may be mistaken. No worries.....it was great riding.

Trekking race (Orienteering ) 2:00:00 [4] 11.8 mi (10:10 / mi)
ahr:150 shoes: FellRaiser

As usual, switching from biking to jogging is somewhat awkward as my legs don't seem to move the way I think they should. I worked my way east on the park trail system through the woods. I got the eastern controls and found an unexpected quagmire on the sidehill approaching the most eastern control. 72 was a PITA as I tried bushwhacking to it rather than playing it safe and coming in from the road. The entire mountain bike area was off limits to us so I jogged back along the road. Then I tried to decide how many to get on the way back and kept getting more than I originally planned as my legs were moving better than I expected. Had I had a bit more confidence in my legs, I would have cleared the course. I should've gone for one more anyways. Live and learn.
Quite a warm day for September, let alone November. A wonderful way to spend a day, and kudos to the Meet Director for using this format.

Control pick up

I did a lot of hike-a-bike this time. Watched an 8 point buck meander along nearby. He knew he was safe!

Touring Bike (Greenway) 1:10:00 [3] 18.6 mi (15.9 mph)

First ride on the touring bike since the UK. Well, I just reassembled it last night.
Got home from work and was wiped out, physically and mentally, but it was still daylight....barely. The couch was calling but I resisted, grabbed a cold piece of pizza, my lights, and set off. Many migrant workers biking to and from town, and some enjoying one last mild evening as they, umm, rested, along the trail. Don't blame them one bit.
Rode up to the top of Mt Erieview. Odd to be picking tiny bugs out of my eyes the first week of November.
Glad I went out for a ride.
