Night O at Chilson

I did a couple 30 pointers, then headed south, then roughly clockwise up into the middle part of the course. I did a lot of bearings, rather than taking the safe routes on the trails (I have hardly been running lately, so running the long way around on a trail might not have been that advantageous to me this time). Perhaps because of the darkness, I did a better job than usual of concentrating and holding the bearings. When there was just over 25 minutes left, I decided I had better start heading back. I had struggled in the green/swamp area to the west of the start/finish in another O meet here, so did NOT want to have to flail through there in the dark. I thought I would grab one more 60 pointer, then fall back to a main trail to get out of the woods. But then that lead to a 50 pointer and another 60 pointer as I headed towards the disc golf trails. That was a handy way to get out of the woods! Then 2 more 30 pointers on the way back to the finish.

I was quite surprised on Sunday morning to see that I placed 4th in the Rogaine event. Quite a few points back from the 3rd place guy, so if I had risked going out to the 70 pointer on the landbridge, it wouldn't have made any difference (other than increasing the risk of going into OT).

Trekking (control pick up) 39:00 [3] 1.6 mi (24:22 / mi)
shoes: Speed Cross

I struggled to find the right path through the disc golf area. Seriously.
