Adventure Bike (Pavé/gravel) 1:37:00 [3] 23.2 mi (14.4 mph)
Thunderstorms and downpours in the night. Set off in the dark with lots of bike lights and rode to Essex to meet K. Had to detour into Cottam as the gravel road was closed at this end to replace a culvert. I checked.....even I wouldn't cross the big excavation taking place. One of those rides where I kept checking to see if I had a flat tire because the wet gravel roads were sucking at my wheels.
Adventure Bike (rail trail) 2:50:00 [3] 37.0 mi (13.1 mph)
Fund raiser ride for our local rail trail. There were a variety of distances offered on both the road and rail trail. Most of our Banded Goose peeps did the 110 km road ride. Paul and I opted for the 60-something km rail trail ride. K has a brand new gravel bike so wanted to do the trail (she races crits and road and mountain bike). So the three of us had a pleasant ride together. The gates at the road crossings were open so that was nicer than everyone (riding in both directions) having to squeeze through the gaps.
It didn't hardly rain and I left my rain coat with a volunteer at the Harrow checkpoint to save carrying it for a few km. It was surprisingly warm for such a grey day.
Back in town, we actually got back before the second food supplier was set up (we sometimes finish after they have run out of food).
