Trekking (Trail) 1:30:00 [3] 3.58 mi (25:08 / mi)

A physically distant walk with Paul's daughters/SIL at Kennedy Woods. Glorious sunshine!

Gravel Bike (Pavement) 2:00:00 [3] 22.28 mi (11.1 mph)

The rail trail was too soft so I stuck to pavement.....except when I went to the beach. Beautiful sunshine.....good for recharging the batteries.
Paul had taken my bike to his preferred LBS, and to my dismay, the fellow "fixed" the shifting (I hadn't said anything about the shifting as I thought it was fine). So it was dropping down into lower gears even when I wasn't trying to shift gears at all. So frustrating. I fiddled with the barrel adjustment part way through the ride, then again close to home, and may have made it less bad. I rode up and down the street after I got home making more adjustments, but still wasn't happy with it (but my hands were cold by then so my sense of humour over it was long gone.)
I wasn't joking when I said that Paul should go to bike mechanic school in his retirement. But he hasn't gone yet.....

Note

I camped out in the backyard Saturday night. It was -7C and I lived to tell the tale. Actually, it was a good sleep. Any colder though, and I'd have to bring another blanket.

Trekking (Pavement) 22:00 [3] 1.51 mi (14:34 / mi)
shoes: Altra Lone Peak 4

Down to Blood Donor Clinic. Brrrr.
I just about got excused before I started as my temperature didn't register at first. I said it was chilly outside! (Darn wind).

Trekking (Pavement) 26:00 [3] 1.53 mi (17:00 / mi)
shoes: Altra Lone Peak 4

Back home while munching on the post donation pretzels.

That is the most people I have seen in weeks and weeks. I have this physical distancing /stay home thing nailed!

Around town. Ironically Mr Obama's book that I am listening to was about Inauguration Day 2009.
It was starting to snow!

Fat Biking (road, double track) 1:00:00 [3] 7.5 mi (8:00 / mi)

Up to Kennedy Woods. It was a bit wet to go over to the western woods, so just did figure 8's in the main woods.

Trekking (Pavement) 28:00 [3] 1.64 mi (17:05 / mi)

I put together pictures from the two days I helped my family with corn harvest in a book. Since I probably won't be going to see them for at least another week, I mailed it to them. I did it through Staples Business Depot (they had a special on around Christmas). I really should make more of these to get physical copies of pictures.

Adventure Bike (pavement/gravel) 2:52:00 [3] 31.6 mi (11.0 mph)

I thought I'd ride out west of town and do a loop of the dump (sounds pretty special, doesn't it?).
It was a pretty solid west wind, so it was a slog for the first while. I decided to make it a loop rather than an out and back. Of course in a loop route, eventually you get a tail wind. And then the wind changed so the last fifth of the route was now a headwind rather than a crosswind.
I stopped to use one of the "tool stands" installed by the municipality to try to adjust my saddle (I got it corrected part way). I took a slightly different route for the SE portion, checking out some older homes (and the station stop for the long-gone electric railway).
It has been a while since I've ridden that far, and it felt like it!

Trekking (Woods) 50:00 [3] 1.55 mi (32:16 / mi)

I brought Paul along for an exploratory hike at Cedar Creek Provincial Park. It is a nature reserve park and one of the province's newest parks. I sold fertilizer to the fellow who planted soybeans in there about 10 years ago as a Canada Foodgrains Bank project. Now that part has been planted to trees and native grasses. The property also includes some mature woodlot that I have been in twice during adventure races. Of course no motorized vehicles are allowed, but judging by the fresh tracks in the mud, someone comes through from the adjacent private property (with conspicuous Private Property signs) on 4 wheelers. Uh huh. Anyways, nice bit of woods with few shagbark hickory trees and oaks.

Trekking (Pavement) 59:00 [3] 3.61 mi (16:21 / mi)
shoes: White Hoka

Up past the arena (which would normally be a happening place on a Sunday, what with old timers hockey and travel teams and local teams and public skating). There were a few snowflakes falling, but that was short lived. The rail trail was sloppy, so I was glad I didn't bother trying to ride it today.

Trekking (trail) 1:12:00 [3] 3.14 mi (22:56 / mi)
shoes: White Hoka

Walk around and around the Harrow woods and up and over the hill with L, working through our respective worklife challenges along the way. Then I picked up supper at a relatively new pub in Harrow. They just started brewing their own beers before Christmas, but don't have them to-go yet. I hope they make it through this lockdown, as that will be a great destination for bike rides.
