Okay race today. I am strong but not fast and that is okay since I am focusing on running well in a race over 3 X as long as today.
It felt fast from the start, I was through the mile in just under 5:30 and felt like the 2nd mile was strong. The last mile was frustrating - I wanted to race, to push, to get in deep and compete but I was right on puke threshold and every time I would try to go I could feel the puke coming on. I basically ran the last mile as easy as possible to avoid puking, I did smile multiple times which seemed to lower perceived exertion and allow me to go a bit faster.
I saw the clock at 17:53 and then sprinted to try and break 18min since I knew that at that point the puke would come after the line and not slow me down. Dry heaved a bit after the race but I was off on my CD less than 5min after finishing and felt good.
Way more there - I was just held back today. Maybe I should just push earlier, puke, and then be able to actually race.

I actually felt pretty sore in the WU, specifically achillles and hip flexors but that might have just been me being sensitive prerace. Felt great on the CD.
