Culbin Night-O in a pack with Bash, Dan, Callum and Andy. Torch connecting was immediately faulty so was periodically plunged into darkness. It was horribly cold and rainy, and to be honest I'm not sure how many of the controls we actually found. A lot of fun though.

4x about 6mins hills up the Seat. Not nearly as bad as I had been fearing all afternoon. Bit slower than last time, but solo and windier this time, so I'm not fussed.

Feeling rough so was happy enough just hanging onto the back of the reasonable pack of boys and chilling on the climbs. Then everyone bailed at an hour and things got a lot grimmer. Got it done though.

EUOC Intervals: 5x5mins [1min]. Windy as hell so made an effort to stick in the pack for slipstreaming purposes. Promptly died a bit on the 4th rep, lost the pack and so then died harder into the wind. The 5th rep was extra horrible.

CSC Final, Brown.

After a small wobble to 1, it became increasingly clear quite quickly that much of the terrain was a bit horrible and hitting up the paths was a good idea. Legs not feeling super fresh after yesterday, but ground it out.

A few more little wobbles to 12 and leaving 17 (after the classic though, "this run is going pretty well actually") but generally quick and clean. Not the nicest orienteering I've ever done, but I still found it oddly enjoyable.

FRAs Leg 3 with Tim.

An amazing run as expected for Bash on Leg 1 and some nice running from Ali and Eddie on Leg 2 meant Tim and I set out in 3rd, with 1st about 4mins ahead and 2nd within sight.

Both quickly agreed on going up the path and cutting across to 1 but as we went along a couple of people asked if we were in 1st. Interesting, the other teams clearly hadn't come this way, but we continued as we dropped into it we say a chasing pack of 2 or 3 teams coming up the stream. The mystery of the missing teams was solved.

We could still see 2nd up ahead so took the same route out of 1 as them, contouring around the hill into the clag. We weren't climbing as much as we though we were so quickly got confused before encountering a nice path the was clearly not on the map., but was going roughly in our direction went with it. 2 of the teams behind us caught us as we popped over the ridge and started dropping into the control, but still nothing seemed right: the ground and the map seemed very different.

Stopped and hesitated a bit, but decided we had to be in roughly the right place and continued and eventually hit the uncrossable fence right between the two crossing points. Went right with the others in tow, continued dropping and promptly overshot the control. Realised quickly and back tracked, loosing the other teams in the process.

Heading out of 2 we saw a few more chasing teams descending so got boosting. I was feeling good so took the lead, nicely picking out some animal trods across the hill to 3. (Got a nice 2nd fastest split here).

On the wall of death, hands-on-knees climb up from 3 we saw Ambleside ahead who must have passed us, but we were certainly closing down on them. The disappeared over the top bvut we knew what we wanted to do so pressed on, picking up the convenient leg 4 taping that I knew were going our way.

Slippy and rocky decent before some nasty bracken into 4, but then Tim took the lead on the straight forward run back into the finish as I held on for dear life.

Finished in 3rd again, after passing 1st place Keswick, who went walk about, but go passed by Ambleside. 5th on the leg overall, 6:30, which is somewhat bitter-sweet: we were running well and were pretty even, but could have been a few mins quicker I we'd not been so stupid to 2. Ah well, team was 4th in the end which is a good result, but only just behind 2nd and 3rd which is, again, super annoying.
