SOL 1 - Birsemore

Feeling pretty tired both physically and mentally, so at first whiff of technicality (i.e. number 2), things went quite wrong; got quite close, but clearly not close enough, and just faffed aimlessly for a few minutes. Then in my annoyance, promptly didn't look at my compass and binned a few more minutes to 3.

Considered my options here, but then gave myself a pep talk and pushed on, and actually had a pretty good run from 3 onwards; which is quite pleasing, while making the stupid early mistakes more annoying. However to be honest, not really too fussed after last night, and either way, had a lovely day out in the forest.

Warm-up sprint on nice little bit of classic Scottish housing estate, with some good routechoices meaning some reasonable brainpower was needed at times. Tried reasonably hard, but was also very aware of the looming threat of the big boy tonight.

For someone studying theoretical physics, had a surprisingly long day working in the lab and so despite feeling generally quite tired and thirsty, really enjoyed my return to the real world with an extended Seat lap.

In the mass start, but things soon broke apart with the gaffling at 1, so after that, it was more a matter of boosting round solo at a reasonable pace. An enjoyable course and I think I hit most of the right routes, which is always nice. At any rate, undoubtedly perfect prep for the British Nights on Saturday.

Headtorch long run round Prestonfield and Duddingston. Quite tired initially so distracted myself by thinking about some other stuff, and after a while actually didn't feel too bad. Always a big fan of some serene, lonely golf course miles in the dark.

Razzy with Ali out along the canal and back. Feeling okay until we began our return across the Meadows, at which point things began to feel like quite a slog. An enjoyable excursion nonetheless.
