So very not wanting to do this.

BUCS Relay - 2nd

Top runs from my fellow Bad Boys sent me out in the lead, about 30secs in front of Bash and a bit more to the rest. Tried hard up the hill to 1, but then lost maybe 20secs in the circle and already Bash was in front. Nailed 2 though and so by the time we were approaching 3, I had clawed my way back up to being shoulder to shoulder with him. Promptly lost another 20secs in the circle and got re-binned.

Bash then headed a bit more round to 4 than I wanted, so lost sight of him and by the control he was nowhere to be seen. Some good fun pinging about the controls down the hill and felt like I was running and naving okay, so was feeling a bit sad at how hard I seemed to have been dropped.

But then in a surprise move, he reappeared ahead just before the spectator, however my weary legs refused to run faster. Although I caught a few glimpses of him round the last wooded loop, I could do nothing about the gap. Had my head on a serious swivel round the bit, very scared of having to try on the run in; I had nothing to give and my already weak sprint finish would have been extremely pathetic.

Anyway, there was no such drama and I shuffled in for the silver. Maybe could have given Sasha a better run for his money on a different day, with slightly less alcohol and slightly more sleep the night before, but still had a reasonably good run and, similar to yesterday, can't really complain too much given the result - it's not everyday you win a BUCS silver with your homies.

BUCS - 4th

Started out well (had a few small slips to 2 and 8, but nothing hugely significant) but then binned a solid 1:30 to 9, thanks to being a compass idiot and then confusing my marshes. Relieved to pop into the control only just behind Jonny (caught me 4mins) and Ben (caught me 2mins). Tried rather hard round the butterfly trying to gain any ground back on Jonny, with essentially no success, but did exit the loops with Ben. Knackered already but now had some good head-to-head racing to help push round the last part as we got comprehensively dropped by the Crickmore Express. Ali also popped in for a bit which was nice.

In conclusion, a good run with a few annoying mistakes, but even without them would only have been delaying the inevitable catch by Johnston. Can't really complain though - a solid run and very happy to take the 4th.

A few sprintervals about Astley Ainslie with some head-to-head with Ali and Cyril. Top notch area with some top notch courses. Running okay, but map reading in general was impressively shocking.

Set out planning to do a normal Wednesday long run, but ended up just sticking to the hour, as;
• Legs feeling dead from yesterday
• So much work to be done before the end of the week
• Left knee feeling a bit off after those 200s
• BUCS taper
• Hungry
• Generally couldn't be bothered
• I don't know, there are probably more
(pick your favourite 3 or so excuses)

In other news, feeling rather tired.

2x 1200m, 2x 1000m, 2x 800m, [all ~2:05], followed by 4x 200m.
A big pack of guys out tonight made things much more fun. Solidly in the middle for the big reps, dead last for the 200s.

Sunset Pentlands with AliMas and Bashman. A bit of a maverick route contouring round the north side of the big ridge before coming back over the tops, but despite some initial reservations, I really quite enjoyed it.
