Falkland Estate - SOL 3

Legs definitely feeling yesterday, but not too terrible and was quite happy round the first loop, however then wimped out a little on the long leg and took the longer, pathier (and overall slower) option. Soon after, glimpsed Spongey behind and managed to hold him off for a few controls, before he stormed past. Gutted myself fairly hard for about 15 minutes trying to keep in contact, before a last little hill to 14 comprehensively snapped the elastic and I was left very tired and alone. Pushed on my best to the finish, but legs were really quite empty, and the final few orange course controls really finished me off.

A bit of a grind and completely knackered at the finish, but still a good race and an enjoyable day out. The icing on the cake was that I beat Carcas by 1 seconds. lol

Somehow drew the short straw and ended up collecting a couple of the far away and high up controls. Unreal levels of plod.

Screen Hill Race

A counter in the Scottish Champs so quite a large and quality field, with the result of everyone going off ridiculously fast. However, once things got off the big track and onto a trickier, rockier, rootier and generally fiddlier path though the woods, I moved up significantly. Held my own across the boggy, open top and the fun scrambly bits, before having a great time descending back down the tricky stuff. Then a nice little track burn-up to cap it all off.

A short and tough course, but with a bit of everything to keep things interesting. Went along mainly just for a bit of fun and a good race, and very much enjoyed it all, finishing about 9th(?). The unreal weather was an added bonus.

Also, big kudos to Bash for leading from the gun, taking the win, setting a new course record by about a minute (that had stood since 1995) and, most importantly, for giving me a lift.

Little warm-down but free cake quickly took priority.

Mixing things up a little with a delightful loop down towards Leith with Alex and Ali. Another chill day before racing tomorrow and finally felt like this might not the only option my legs had, unlike the last few days.

Easy out to the Pentlands with Ali before a nice loop with the boys. Feeling rather goosed so was happy to settle into a serious plod on the climbs, and thus was constantly getting seriously dropped. Weather the best its been for a while, making things all very picturesque and roasty toasty.

Feeling good on the flat KF reps, but quads instantly started complaining on the hills. But it was a lovely warm sunny evening with the bagpipes going from somewhere nearby, malking it all quite bearable though, compared to doing similar sessions with EUOC in pitch-black mid-winter sleet storms.

Chilly Hermitage and Blackford with LucĂa. Been a while since I've been to the top of Blackford; it had been a nice day so had hoping for a nice sunset, but instead just got dull greyness. Lovely stuff.
