Little trip to the Chelsea Training ground with fanboy Ali.

Left side quite sore, but jogging at an easy pace is just about bearable. Attempted a stride but then bailed after about 0.1 seconds because it was too painful.

JK Long - 19th

In two minds about running, but settled for a determined cruise, trying to stay on the paths as much as possible to minimise any twisting/turning/jumping. In the end though, I think this probably wasn't a terrible strategy in general as it meant I nicely avoid any horrible bonk in the tropical heat. Still lost a few minutes to mistakes, but wasn't exactly challenging for a good result so I'm not exactly too fussed and apart from my various pains, v. enjoyable all round.

JK Middle - 37th

Going okay initially, feeling much better than yesterday, but then tripped on some fallen stuff and hit the deck hard to 8. Covered myself in dirt, cut up my hands and knees a fair bit and winded myself pretty badly, but undetered, I resiliently popped back up and powered on.

However in my state, promptly screwed up 4 of the next 5 with absolutely rookie errors (terrible direction, unable to recognise a huge clearing, didn't notice I hadn't cross a railway line...) and so quickly binned my good race. Got it together a bit after that, but left side of my chest was in a very painful way and so it was a bit of a power hobble round the last part.

Finished far down in the end, which is rather annoying to say the least. Silver lining though is that my stitches were barely noticeable.

JK Sprint - 17th

Never really felt like I was moving very well, and then still managed to die hard after about 10 minutes. Combined with a couple of sub-optimal routes and hesitations, resulted in a time well off the pace. Stitches were generally fine - slightly uncomfortable and twingey at points - but I don't think they had any significant impact on my race. Not a terrible run, just not really a good one either, but at least the weather was nice.

Didn't enjoy the emiTags at all, having to go back and repunch several controls; but I'm fairly sure that statement is true for everyone who ran.

After having a slightly nasty skin disease on my legs for several years, and being on the Edinburgh dermatology department waiting list for about 8 months, suddenly got a last minute, surprise appointment for today, with the net result of them taking a couple of skin samples, leaving me with 6 stitches in my upper left thigh. The nurse told me not to run for 10 days, but I know what she really meant was "take a day and a half off, and then run 4 hard orienteering races in a row". Optimistic it won't affect me too much, but either way the JK will be extra fun now.

Easy with Calum, Dan and Ali. Lovely evening, but some tired quads and brick-like calves made this a bit a struggle. A few easy days before the JK should sort it all out, but just to be safe might have to break out the stretching and rolling (for the first time in probably about a year).
