Road Running 19:35 [2] 4.07 km (4:49 / km) +28m 4:39 / km
shoes: Mizuno Wave Riders 23

Probably didn't really need this, but haven't had many opportunities for pre-race shake-outs so thought I might as well.
11 AM

Trail Running warm up/down 14:05 [2] 2.66 km (5:18 / km) +111m 4:23 / km
shoes: X-Talons 212 WK2

Started with a few loops round the field that was the 6 Days campsite last year. Good mems.

Trail Running race 1:00:01 intensity: (20:00 @4) + (40:01 @5) 11.72 km (5:07 / km) +742m 3:53 / km

Scottish Hill Champs

Was placed in the third wave of starters for some reason (behind even my dad in the second wave) which was a bit annoying as all the people I'd probably want to be running with were already halfway up the hill by the time I started. Within 500m of the start I was already nicely socially distanced from everyone, with one Shettleston guy ahead who instantly shot off and everyone else behind, and that was pretty much exactly how it stayed all the way up the hill: alone, apart from on the straighter parts and hairpins where I could just glimpse a blue vest a minute or so up the track. I did begin to catch him on the steeper part in the last few km (I think), but I also began to pop so never put in a serious challenge. Felt mostly pretty reasonable physically, but it was hard to tell how hard to push for most of the race as I knew things got steeper towards the top, but then again, that last bit is always going to be pretty horrible so maybe I should have made a bigger effort earlier. Who knows.

All things considered though, pretty happy with things for a mostly TT effort up the hill, ending up 28th. Felt totally spent at the top of course, but having a few people about in that last third would have been very appreciated to keep things moving. In some ways it was nice to be back racing for the first time in forever, and in some other way it was really not that nice at all. Great day for it though. Good cloud inversion at the top too.

Trail Running 41:26 [2] 7.61 km (5:27 / km) +14m 5:24 / km
shoes: X-Talons 212 WK2

Jog down after sitting at the top for a while. More good mems dropping down the hillside into the campsite.

Out of interest went to check out the ash track in Maryhill Park. Not terrible, but probably not prime conditions either, as there are some nice patches of slick mud in the first lane.

Road Running 13:06 [2] 2.6 km (5:03 / km) +73m 4:26 / km
shoes: Mizuno Wave Riders 23

Quads feeling pretty DOMSy from yesterday, but thought I might as well still give things a bash.

Road Running hills 30:04 intensity: (10:02 @1) + (10:02 @2) + (10:00 @5) 5.17 km (5:49 / km) +258m 4:39 / km
shoes: Mizuno Wave Riders 23

A short little hills session on the golf course track behind Baljaffray of:
2x full thing (~2:30), 2x bottom bit (~1:05), 2x top bit (~1:15), 2x middle bit (~15s), all with a nice and hefty double recovery.
Honestly the biggest motivating factor was bagging some segments, and the rep structure was optimised to do so. Only got 1 of the 3 in the end but the hill is a lot steeper than I'd remembered so I'll take it. Don't think I'll be rushing back, but who knows.

Road Running 14:00 [2] 2.86 km (4:54 / km)
shoes: Mizuno Wave Riders 23

Nice and downhill.

Usual Clyde suspects run up Dumgoyne and towards Earl's Seat. Thing were, in a word, steep so just plodded up in low gear for the most part and enjoyed a route that was a new one for me. However towards the end did see some other fast looking runners and so did give it a bit of gas up and over Dumgoyne on the way back, which really shocked the quads into some insta-DOMS for the last 20 minutes.
