We are hanging out at Alli's mom's house for the near future. I got out for a short run in the afternoon and felt absolutely devoid of energy. Persik kept looking back at me to understand why i was running so slowly.
I went by the house later in the evening. There were a couple of dozen huge fans and humidifiers everywhere, and most of the flooring has been pulled up. It was jarring to see our house look so violated.

Note

Got home to a flooded house and water flowing everywhere from a burst pipe. House will likely be unlivable for at least a couple of months.

SWSW Day 2 - Javelina Hustle, Box Canyon Map

Pretty soon after the mass start, Jan ran off the front of the pack, and I found myself with Andrew M and Francis F. Andrew was running faster than me and slowly pulling away. I saw him skip #4 and decided to save my skip for later. Francis stuck with me. I skipped 8 and could see Jan (who didn't skip at all) about a minute ahead. I had a good leg to 10 and was surprised to not see Francis behind me anymore. I must have gotten ahead of Andrew on the skip, as Cristina said I was 2nd when I came through the map exchange.

I then proceeded to screw up the long leg after the map exchange, adding both climb and distance to my route. Doh. Andrew showed up and punched it just ahead of me. I saw him heading to 15 and decided to take a gamble and skip it, since I knew he was running faster than me, and I wouldn't be able to beat him head to head.

The gamble didn't work. As expected, he skipped 18, and got to 19 almost a minute ahead of me. I lost more ground to him the rest of the way in, and ended up 3rd overall. Lots of fun!

I think we are slowly getting to the point where doing a White course with Inara qualifies as training. It took her a couple of controls to get into it, but after that she was doing a good job of looking at the map, identifying the direction she came from, orienting the map, and picking the direction to head in next. Lots of fun!

SWSW Day 1 - Catalina State Park, Blue course.

I hurried to the start after running White with Inara and felt a bit stressed about time. (We pulled into Catalina around 11am after driving from Missoula with two overnights on the way.)
I ran pretty well, though, and was able to maintain good speed and solid navigation for the first two-thirds of the course. Things came apart a bit towards the end, as I tore a really big chunk of skin from the bottom of my L big toe, which made running pretty painful. Ended up 2nd, 3 minutes behind Andrew M.

Quick run in the snow with Jan in Canyonlands National Park to break up the longest day (750 miles) of our drive down to Tucson. Spectacular!
