| Tampere Games, Day 2. Again, no real desire to race ad beginning to feel sick. Still, i ran pretty fast in the beginning and made a couple of large errors before slowing down and running much cleaner towards the end. |
Sunday Jul 29 |
 | Running 10:00 [2]1.0 mi (10:00 / mi) | |
| |
| warm-up |
 | Orienteering 1:12:21 [3]7.7 mi (9:23 / mi) | |
| |
| Tampere Games, day 1. Feeling very tired after O-Ringen and a day of travel, i had no desire to run this course and ended up taking it pretty easy and running slowly while not making many mistakes. |
Friday Jul 27 |
 | Running 20:00 [2]2.0 mi (10:00 / mi) | |
| |
| warm-up |
 | Orienteering 47:27 [4]7.5 km (6:20 / km) | |

| O-Ringen Day 5, chase start. I was in a good start position, with a bunch of people close in front of me and not too many close behind me. I started 107th and hoped tyo finish in the top 100. I had an excellent race, making maybe 1:30 total of mistakes and running fast the whole way. Ended up finishing 90th and picking up 17 places. Yay. |
 | Orienteering 19:24 [3] | |
| |
| Beer-O at O-Ringen after day 5, organized by Mattias and his cohorts.
Lots of fun, and very drunk in the end.
Got 2nd place after Danny Walker, beating all the Swedes. :) |
Thursday Jul 26 |
 | Running 20:00 [2]2.0 mi (10:00 / mi) | |
| |
| warm-up |
 | Orienteering 38:52 [4]4.7 km (8:16 / km) | |
| |
| O-Ringen Day 4, the short day. After running well over 10 min-km in ech of the O-Ringen short days for the last 3 years, my goal was just to run under 10 per km. After 2 mistakes early, i settled down and raced well the rest of the way. Beat Mattias by 17 seconds. :) |
Tuesday Jul 24 |
 | Running 20:00 [2]2.0 mi (10:00 / mi) | |
| |
| warm-up |
 | Orienteering 56:04 [4]7.7 km (7:17 / km) | |
| |
| O-Ringen Day 3. I hoped to bounce back from the awful run of the day before and did, having my best run in Scandinavia to date. I started slowly and carefully, but picked up speed and confidence as time went on. |
Monday Jul 23 |
 | Running 20:00 [2]2.0 mi (10:00 / mi) | |
| |
| warm-up |
 | Orienteering 1:26:04 [4]8.4 km (10:15 / km) | |
| |
| O-Ringen day 2. A crappy run this time. I started out pretty well, but then started making mistakes and losing concentration in a very technical area. Was also dehydrated towards the end, basically everything that could go wrong did go wrong. |
Sunday Jul 22 |
 | Running 10:00 [2]1.0 mi (10:00 / mi) | |
| |
| warm-up |
 | Orienteering 1:05:55 [4]7.8 km (8:27 / km) | |
| |
| O-Ringen Day 1, H21-1 class. Made errors on the first 2 controls, but then got into the map and started cruising and passing people. |
Saturday Jul 21 |
 | Rollerblading 1:10:00 [3] | |
| |
| A midnight fast-past rollerblading excursion with Simon Goddard, an Aussie orienteer who crashed with us last night. Stockholm is absolutely spectacular at night!! I had a fabulous time. Now - off to O-Ringen. |
Friday Jul 20 |
 | Orienteering 1:13:14 [2] | |
| |
| Long, weird orienteering run on the Lill Jansskogen map with Mike Eglinski and the Walkers. It was raining and we only had 2 maps, so we switched off each control or so. Then, we lost Kenny and spent about 30 minutes searching for him. We thought he was dead, which would be bad 'cause he had the only set of housekeys...But he wasn't dead, just strayed from us without a map or any clue where the next control was. |
Thursday Jul 19 |
 | Orienteering 44:24 [3]5.1 km (8:42 / km) | |
| |
| Drew circles on the Nacka map and ran a course in the rain. Very nice temperature to run at, and i felt good both running and orienteering. I am excited about O-Ringen now!! Can't wait to race again.
Tomorrow, we get an invasion of Americans and Aussies in our small apartment. Let's see how that works out... |
Wednesday Jul 18 |
 | Running 39:03 [2]5.21 mi (7:29 / mi) | |
| |
| The easy section of the fartlek/trail run/map run we did today on our local map. We were feeling pretty lazy and had the day cut in half by laundry, so instead of going far away, we just stayed close by. Very, very muddy on some trails... |
 | Running 9:14 [4]1.43 mi (6:27 / mi) | |
| |
| The faster sections of the fartlek - we did these while following a line on the map, which made for some ultrafast orienteering. Good practice for Park-O, our new favorite discipline. |
Tuesday Jul 17 |
 | Running 26:20 [2]3.29 mi (7:59 / mi) | |
| |
| Easy run down Valhallavägen at night in the rain on our first night back from Hungary. Stockholm is definitely starting to feel like home... |
Saturday Jul 14 |
 | Orienteering 16:26 [5]2.41 km (6:49 / km) | |
| |
| Park race on the off day at JWOC. A dismal performance for me, with just one mistake, but one that cost me over 3 minutes and a lot of blood. A stupid route choice led me to run straight across a very overgrown powerline insdtead of going slightly around on the trail. I got stuck and horribly cut up in the powerline and was forced to back out. The name of the plant that did most of the damage to me can be translated as "hedgehog berry"... After the race i extracted a 1.5 inch long stick out of my foot. It had gone through the tongue of my shoe and all the way in...My foot swelled up later in the day, and i've been limping around ever since. It finally subsided on the 17th, so i'll start training again when we are back in Stockholm tomorrow. |
Friday Jul 13 |
 | Running 26:08 [2]3.56 mi (7:20 / mi) | |
| |
| Easy running with Kenny around the ghetto event center. Very, very hot in the afternoon after the classic race. |

Wednesday Jul 11 |
 | Orienteering 1:15:40 [3] | |
| |
| Orienteering on the map across the road from the event center with Kenny and a guy from the Ukrainian team. Very steep, unrunnable map. Our glorious training session was capped by a dash into the woods to avoid a mean-looking dog standing on the trail. |
Tuesday Jul 10 |
 | Orienteering 47:52 [2] | |
| |
| Running around on the JWOC model event map. Followed a Norwegian guy for a couple of controls, trying to watch what he did to orienteer faster. I was surprised to see how often he looked at the map even when running quite fast. |
Sunday Jul 8 |
 | Orienteering 1:02:04 [3]7.25 km (8:34 / km) | |
| |
| Training race - doing backwards the course that we had the US team do for a time trial. Pretty slow going, very hot... |
Saturday Jul 7 |
 | Orienteering 28:00 [2] | |
| |
| Setting streamersd made of toilet paper and checking some control locations for a US JWOC team practice. That's right, Kenny and i are the "coaches" of the American team. |
 | Orienteering 36:15 [4]5.25 km (6:54 / km) | |
| |
| Training course in the beautiful hungarian woods. |
Friday Jul 6 |
 | Running 33:04 [3] | |
| |
| Running with a map, but mostly on trails on our first day in Hungary. It is sooooo steep here! But the woods are beautiful and wide open. |
Thursday Jul 5 |
 | Orienteering 1:07:45 [3]8.5 km (7:58 / km) | |
| |
| Running with a map and Kenny at Fleminsberg, feeling very tired... |
Wednesday Jul 4 |
 | Running 15:00 [2]1.5 mi (10:00 / mi) | |
| |
| Warmup/cooldown |
 | Orienteering 59:52 [4]6.6 km (9:04 / km) | |
| |
| O-Race at Nacka, just southeast of Stockholm. I was very tired after the overnight train from Skåne and ran pretty slowly at times, making some mistakes, though no big ones except for a 180 going out of a control, which cost me about 1-1.5 minutes. |
Tuesday Jul 3 |
 | Running 15:00 [2]1.5 mi (10:00 / mi) | |
| |
| Warmup/cooldown |
 | Orienteering 52:48 [4]8 km (6:36 / km) | |
| |
| Havs OL orienteering race at Hällevik, Blekinge. Made 5:30 in errors, mostly in the beginning of the course. Afterwards, settled down and got used to the extremely fast pace everything was happening at on this really open map. Best time - 38:50. |
Monday Jul 2 |
 | Kayaking 1:30:00 [1] | |
| |
| Well, it was really canoeing and not kayaking, but i already have a kayaking category...I know it shouldn't really count as training, but whatever. And it was fun and beautiful. |
 | Orienteering 1:09:11 [3]8.25 km (8:23 / km) | |
| |
| A training run on the map we were canoeing on. Pretty easy terrain, good for getting back some much-needed self-confidence in my orienteering. Still, was sloppy at times and got very lazy towards the end, slowing down considerably. |
