Orienteering 32:16 [2] 2.5 km (12:54 / km)

Setting streamers for a loop at Hammond Pond. It's cold and wet, but at least the woods are runnable...

Orienteering 19:16 [3] 2.2 km (8:45 / km)

Running Misha's loop at Hammond Pond.

Orienteering 27:44 [2] 2.7 mi (10:16 / mi)

Taking down the streamers - a mix of my and Misha's controls.

Orienteering 45:45 [3] 4.95 km (9:15 / km)

Rerunning an old training course with some additions on a beautiful day at Pine Hill with
Misha. Took it pretty easy after yesterday's time trial and this morning's full body massage. Oh man, that was a good massage!

Running 28:30 [2] 3.49 mi (8:10 / mi)

Warm up and cool down for the time trial.

Running 18:32 [5] 5.0 km (3:42 / km)

5km test run at the Harvard track in light rain to see what shape i am in after ski season and after not having run for several months. The result was about what i expected - slower than the 18:07 i ran in June. So i have quite a bit of work to do this spring... Splits:

83 87 88 88 (5:46 mile)
89 89 91 91 (6:00 mile)
90 91 91 89 (6:01 mile)

Running 55:03 [3] 7.68 mi (7:10 / mi)

Pretty fast run by the river. Felt some stiffness in the hasmtrings, probably a result of my quads being stronger after the ski season.

Running 30:06 [3] 4.15 mi (7:15 / mi)

A dusk-time run along the river, into ridiculously strong headwind on the way out. Felt pretty good, which is encouraging after a hard day yesterday.

Orienteering 54:57 [3] 6.5 km (8:27 / km)

Pawtuckaway training, 1st run. 11 controls. Was struggling early, getting used to navigating in complex terrain, but got a nice rhythm going towards the end.

Orienteering 42:36 [3] 4.5 km (9:28 / km)

2nd part of Pawtuckaway training, 8 controls. I was picking up the streamers, which slowed me down a bit. I also made several large mistakes, definitely due to loss of concentration.

Orienteering 29:30 [3] 2.8 km (10:32 / km)

Control picking at Pawtuckaway. I didn't measure the exact distance, but rather averaged Matthias' and Kenny's numbers 'cause i am too lazy to measure myself. Control picking was pretty tough - very detailed, a lot of rock, lots of stray streamers put out by rock climbers, and fatigue setting in...

Running 21:35 [2] 4.0 km (5:24 / km)

Run/crawl back to parking lot from the Boat Launch at Pawtuckaway. A nice day of training overall!

Friday Mar 8, 2002 #

Running 30:02 [3] 4.0 mi (7:31 / mi)

Run with Misha by the river

Thursday Mar 7, 2002 #

Orienteering 53:06 [3] 7.59 km (7:00 / km)

Line-O at Boojum with Misha. Daringly exceeding the 20-minute Long Run record set earlier in the week...

Wednesday Mar 6, 2002 #

Rollerblading 1:20:00 [2]

Late-night rollerblade to Brookline and Brighton.

Tuesday Mar 5, 2002 #

Harvard bridge with Misha

Monday Mar 4, 2002 #

Running 21:19 [2] 2.69 mi (7:55 / mi)

Easy, short run with Misha to get my legs moving. Very cold and windy today...

Orienteering 1:03:40 [4] 9.2 km (6:55 / km)

Back to orienteering!
I sort of stopped putting training down for the last two weeks, as it was just more skiing and ski racing. Now, the season is over after two very good races at Middlebury last week-end, and I am ready to start orienteering again.
This was a local meet in England, in Brentwood, South Essex. Brown Course, 9.2km, 26 (!) controls. Quite fun and runnable. I felt rusty, both running and orienteering. Time to start training for O again!
