| More kayaking around the lake. | ||
Tuesday May 28 | ||
| Running 39:12 [3]5.29 mi (7:24 / mi) | ||
| Running on dirt roads close near Sarah's house early in the morning. Very steep - i really need to do hill training over the summer... Run followed by a naked swim in the lake. Water temperature <60F. | ||
| Note | ||
| Also did all sorts of running around and such while playing football, frisbee, and fighting with water guns. | ||
Monday May 27 | ||
| Kayaking 1:00:00 [1] | ||
| End-of-the year hanging out at Sarah's house in the Berkshires. Kayaking in the lake by the house. | ||

Sprint-O - Splits | ||
Thursday May 23 | ||
| Running 31:36 [3]4.51 mi (7:00 / mi) | ||
| Run by the river to get legs moving. I really couldn't get into a good rhythm and felt like i was struggling the entire time. I think i was dehydrated... | ||
Wednesday May 22 | ||
| Soccer 1:00:00 [3] | ||
Monday May 20 | ||
| Note | ||
| No more big races in the near future. I think that i will take a break now, not doing much volume through graduation (June 6) and will begin summer training in New York after that, with World University Championships/ CSU Classic Champs in August as the goal to peak for.
Things to work on: 1. Sticking with a route choice and not wasting time thinking over it after it's been chosen on long legs. 2. Slowing down in control circle. (especially a problem after several good legs in a row) 3. Hill climbing - i haven't done any uphill reps all spring, and it shows. 4. Maintaining speed after 75 minutes. That seems to be when i drastically slow down.... I am sure there are more things that i am missing, but these are the ones that come to mind after this week-end.
Sunday May 19 | ||
| Running 15:00 [2]1.76 mi (8:31 / mi) | ||
| Warmup | ||
| Orienteering 1:32:26 [4]10.2 km (9:04 / km) | ||
| Day 2 of DVOA A-Meet. Started out feeling sluggish and stayed that way throughout the race. Made a few errors and was hesitant throughout. Not happy with the race. I am still unable to put together two good races in a row, something i thought i was capable of throughout all of last fall... | ||
blue - Splits | ||
Saturday May 18 | ||
| Running 25:00 [2]2.94 mi (8:30 / mi) | ||
| Long, easy warm-up for the US Short Course Champs, plus a few sprints. | ||
| Orienteering 35:31 [5]4.6 km (7:43 / km) | ||
| US Short Course Champs. One of my best short course runs ever (i traditionally do very badly at these - run too fast and mess up bigtime). Did make one big mistake (1:45) and two smaller ones (1:00 and 0:45). Still, felt pretty good and satisfied with 5th overall and 4th US. Still, would have been nice to get Joe. :)
Nice run by Kenny!! | ||
Blue - Splits | ||
Thursday May 16 | ||
| Soccer 1:15:00 [3] | ||
Wednesday May 15 | ||
| Running 10:00 [2]1.11 mi (9:00 / mi) | ||
| Warming up for Park-O after a couple of days of intense paper-writing, problem set-doing, and project-making. | ||
| Orienteering 20:38 [5]3.4 km (6:04 / km) | ||
| Park-O at Franklin Park. First control was missing, which cost me some time, though not much. Decent race otherwise, first place, thougt mainly due to William spending too much time looking for the missing flag. | ||
| Running 25:00 [2]2.78 mi (8:59 / mi) | ||
| Jogging and picking up controls woth Karen and Luke after the Park-O. | ||
Sunday May 12 | ||
| Running 58:55 [3]7.86 mi (7:29 / mi) | ||
| Run by the river with William. Originally was to be a long(er) run, but we were both very sore from our workouts the day before, so we ran slower and less... | ||
Saturday May 11 | ||
| Running 1:20:20 [3]11.5 mi (6:58 / mi) | ||
| Distance run:
home to Fresh Pond via river 14:46 lap 17:00 lap 16:56 lap 16:37 back via river and around Mather 15:00
Friday May 10 | ||
| Soccer 1:25:00 [3] | ||
| Soccer game in the hot, blistering sun after my first dentist visit ever... | ||
Thursday May 9 | ||
| Biking 1:20:00 [2] | ||
| A bike ride with Jesse, Bryden and Misha (part of the way) up Minuteman Trail towards Concord. I decided i wanted a day of no-impact training after a few days of running on pavement and such. | ||
Wednesday May 8 | ||
| Running 20:00 [2]2.61 mi (7:40 / mi) | ||
| Jogging to Fresh Pond for the Park-O. | ||
| Orienteering 21:19 [5]4.16 km (5:07 / km) | ||
| Fresh Pond park race: 2-loop mass start race. 2nd place to Kenny's 19:55. Made about 45 seconds of errors, couldn't have run Kenny's time. | ||
| Running 22:27 [2]2.64 mi (8:30 / mi) | ||
| Cooling down and collecting controls with Audun and Kenny. | ||
Fresh Pond - Splits | ||
Tuesday May 7 | ||
| Running 29:50 [3]4.26 mi (7:00 / mi) | ||
| Short run by the river with Jenny rollerblading along. | ||
Monday May 6 | ||
| Running 42:08 [3]5.9 mi (7:08 / mi) | ||
| Harvard bridge loop. Very warm, very windy - a strange combination around here...
I am finally starting to look at summer O-plans. I think i will do everything possible to have time and money to go to Bulgaria for the World Student O-Champs in August. It looks like a very fun event, and will also be the CSU Classic Champs - the year's marquee event!!
Saturday May 4 | ||
| Orienteering 52:58 [2]5 km (10:36 / km) | ||
| Jogging around Pine Hill with Jenny and looking for controls we drew on the map during the CSU National Orienteering Day meet. | ||
| Running 21:55 [2]3 km (7:18 / km) | ||
| Trail-running: collecting the white course with Will at Pine Hill. Periods of moderately fast running on full stomachs after Sara Mae's bagels-and-cheese lunch, followed by periods of standing around and untying the controls from the trees. | ||
Friday May 3 | ||
| Soccer 2:15:00 [3] | ||
| Fun, long pick-up soccer game. Jenny played too. | ||
Thursday May 2 | ||
| Running 5:00 [5]0.77 mi (6:29 / mi) | ||
| Running from the Harvard Observatory to the Agassiz School, where i left my bookbag sitting on the sidewalk when loading the inflatable planetarium into the back of a cab. Long story...But i got the bag back. | ||
| Running 10:00 [2]1.11 mi (9:00 / mi) | ||
| Warming up for the Park-O at Hammond Pond. | ||
| Orienteering 23:54 [4]3.25 km (7:21 / km) | ||
| Hammond Pond Park-O, also the inaugural CSU Sprint-O Champs. Kenny won with a blistering time of 21:21. I made three 45-second errors, including one on the last control which cost me second place. Oh well, 3rd in this company isn't bad. Lots of fun, great course, nice weather, good woods! Thanks Audun!! | ||
| Orienteering 37:00 [2]4 km (9:15 / km) | ||
| Jogging around Hammon Pond with Matthias, William, Kenny, and picking up controls and trying not to pass Abi in the process (we didn't, though we did get to watch her ditch a large chasing dog...) Matthias goes back to Austria tomorrow. Sad. I guess i'll have to go to Bulgaria now to compete for the CSU Classic Champs. | ||
